Question about Harry Potter___________?

For a fan fiction I'm writing, I need to know if the word Mudblood in Hermione's arm is canon or movie canon only? If book canon, would you please tell me at least the chapter to find it?

Update:

All right, one more question to clarify. Is it J.K. Rowling approved? May use it in an all canon short story?(I, E.. Harry telling his story to the teachers at Hogwarts)

It was only in the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 movie, not the book. Interestingly, it wasn't thought up by J.K. Rowling or screenwriter Steve Kloves. Emma Watson (Hermione) and Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix) came up with the idea themselves, and then pitched it to director David Yates, who loved it. However, although it wasn't thought up by J.K. Rowling, everything in the movies is subject to her approval, so she was obviously okay with it.

Source(s): Harry Potter fanatic, and also an interview with David Yates (I don't remember which one though...maybe from the Part 1 premier?)
