XBOX360 not recognizing Ethernet cable?
trying to connect to LIVE via wired connection. using a router that's known to work using a port that's known to work with a cable that's known to work. when i go to internet connection settings on the XBOX it asks wired or wireless. when i click wired a notice pops up asking to make sure a cable is plugged in... the router light also doesn't turn on when connected to the console. is there a problem with the console's plug?
hans: that didn't work. i have it unplugged for minutes at a time while getting different cables and switching cables and router ports.

Sounds like the network jack on the Xbox 360 has broken, you'll need to send it to Microsoft to repair.
Or buy an official Xbox 360 wireless adapter if it is an old white Xbox 360. Of course it's the new slim black model, you already have wireless.
