Can I get metal braces that have clear/white brackets?
Hi! I'm getting braces soon and I was wondering if I could get the metal braces (traditional) instead of the fancy ceramic ones. The ceramic braces are too expensive for my parents to get, so they said I have to get metal. I can choose my colors and everything. (I'm probably going to clear or white) In other words, can I get tooth-colored, clear, or white brackets on my braces that are metal without getting the ceramic ones? Also, InvisaLighn is not covered by my parent's insurance. I really just don't want my braces to be noticed!!
If they do make clear metal braces, which foods should I avoid so I know to try to avoid them.
***Thank you so much!(:

I'm sorry to say that either way, your braces will be noticeable. You will still have a metal wire running along your teeth and the metal visible where the brackets will bind the wire to your teeth. Just have fun with it and choose wild colors. I would often change mine for the holiday or wear my favorite colors.

Pretty sure they don't make clear metal braces. The colors you mentioned are probably the ligatures (tiny little rubber bands that go around each bracket to help hold the wire in). So if your brackets are metal, they will be grey/silver.
Even for the ligatures, though, you'll want to avoid clear or white colors. They stain very easily and it makes your teeth look a bit dingy until your next appointment. Pretty much anything red, orange, yellow, or brown (like coffee) stains. Aside from that, clear ligatures don't really make metal braces any more subtle, so you may as well just have fun with the colors! Nobody really cares about braces, so you'll be fine. :)
If you do want subtlety, though, the best you can do is probably grey, just to blend in with the brackets and avoid drawing any more attention.
Best of luck with your braces! :)

I have ceramic braces, but I don't use a clear/white wire, just normal metal. I don't know how easily the clear wire stains, but the clear ligatures (bands around each bracket) stain very easily. It's not impossible to keep them clear, you just have to be very careful about what you eat between appointments. I hear fairly often that they're more comfortable, but I actually wouldn't say so. I have ceramic on top and metal on bottom, so I can compare. They're bulkier than normal braces, so I get annoyed with them on a daily basis for scraping my lips every time I smile and talk. But I'm still very glad I got them. I'm a very self-conscious person, so it makes me happy that even with a metal wire, the people around me often forget I have braces, since they're not so glaringly obvious. So I definitely like the look of them. :)

They're going to be noticed either way. The colored or clear part is only a portion of the braces...the rest is metal, and noticeable. There aren't clear metal braces...that's why they came up with stuff like Invisalign.
Don't, under ANY circumstances, get clear or light-colored colors! Anything you eat that has a color to it will stain them. Then they aren't light-colored or clear anymore...they're a menu of whatever you eat. Brushing doesn't help.
You'll learn to accept your braces. It's a perfectly normal thing to go through. Just go for darker colors like green, blue, purple, red, etc.

Don't get clear. If you do, let's say you eat pizza. The pizza will stain your clear braces. No offense but suck it up you need braces, then you need braces no need to hide them you ignorant person
Hope your braces hurt SUPER badly lol
