Jerry West became the finals MVP even though his team lost. This was an amazing feat, because he had to be better than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson who, of course, won the championship that year.

Jerry West in the 1969 NBA Finals Lakers vs. Celtics. The series went to 7 games. Jerry West averaged 38 points per game throughout the whole Finals. In Game 7, West had a triple double scoring 42 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists. He is the only player in NBA history to win the MVP award even though his team lost. This was also the first year that the MVP award was awarded after the NBA finals.

Jerry West, in my opinion its was one of the greatest individual losing effort because he was clearly the best player on the court but that Boston team was just too superior and defensively just outstanding.
