Do buddhist believe in a higher power?
I am aware some sects of buddhism have gods but not the original buddhism and some others but I am wondering even if they do not believe in gods do they believe in a higher power.
Also if it is possible does offerings and prayers to buddha count as worshipping a higher power.

BUDDHISM โ Religious teaching from Buddha and his followers that by destroying greed, hatred and delusion (the cause of all suffering) man can attain perfect enlightenment!
As you observed a few sects have adopted the idea of a god but that really places them outside of Buddhism just as the Mormons, Jehvah's witnesses and other sects are really outside of Chrsitianity!

There is no "original Buddhism" just fyi.
And thats a complicated question, the general answer is NO but there are qualifiers. the IT is not a person or a personality, but it can be called "Buddha" and thus perhaps it does. But this is "Buddha" in a much grander term than just the historical person.
We cannot really know until we reach a degree of awakening to the point that we can know. Some of our stuff is "you will find out later, for now do not worry about it". as to does it count as worshiping a higher power, I guess thats a matter of opinion. There is no power separate from what humans are capable of experiencing.

No form of Buddhism believes in a higher power. Core Buddhist principles are same in every Buddhist denomination. Buddhism understands that only human beings can save themselves from the misery and that there in no use in expecting help from a higher power.
Buddhism clearly acknowledges the existence of beings that cannot be seen (evil ones and good ones) but they dont have power over the humans. Existence in those supernatural planes are not eternal but temporary.
Only a human being can become enlightened. Lord Buddha is a perfectly natural human being. Every human being has the potential to become enlightened.
Buddhist offerings to statues and chantings are parts of it's rituals. They dont expect any favours in return.

I'm a Rinzai Zen Buddhist, and an atheist. Buddhists vary a lot on this subject, in fact, many Buddhists sects differ from each other even more then Judaism, Christianity and Islam differ from each other. The difference is, we never go to war or engage in violence over differences in religion.

Any buddhist who has ever read the teachings of buddha and understood what they said does not believe in a higher power. With that said, the world is full of idiots.

Some do, some don't. Buddhism doesn't tell you there is a supreme deity or not, that is up to the individual. It doesn't effect someones path to enlightenment if they believe or not.

the way Buddhists see gods, divines, ghosts etc as different species of the universe.
around the world, some people worship their parents, some their love, some their careers, some the gods and some the ghosts and demons.

In Mahayana branch, Buddha and his students are not any more gods, yet they could bless and keep human beings from falling to hell at the same time as gods in heaven can decide human beings and guard the cycle of karma. So truly they have diverse initiatives! we may be able to assert Buddha has the utmost ability in saving human beings at the same time as god has the utmost ability in judging human beings.
