How can I become a better anime artist?
I want to become better at drawing anime (or anime-like) characters so i can become an animator. Currently though, i really suck at drawing. I was wondering if anyone had any tips they could give me, or suggestions of books to buy or websites to visit. Also if anyone could suggest a college that has a program in computer animation i would really appreciate it. Now before anyone tries to stop me and says that I shouldn't even bother trying to become an animator because it's hard to do, or hard to get a job, i've already decided that this is what I'm going to do. I even dropped out of my last college because they didn't have an animation program so I'm pretty serious. Once again, Thank you.

Someone asked a similar question to yours so Ill tell you what I told them:
well I first started drawing seriously when I was 7/8 and by seriously I mean I put actual effort and tried to improve. Im now 19. I did at first start by copying cartoons, then storybooks and then popular anime. I did have a knack for copying what I saw to near exact detail on things like dragonball z. I then tried to create my own characters but wasnt getting the results I wanted. What I needed was a foundation in anatomy which I didnt get till 9th grade (13) thats when I started to really improve. I now have my own style which is not anime but not cartoon either and drawing anatomy comes easier all though I do struggle sometimes. So I personally recommend studying anatomy. But if there is a manga style you admire that you want, you should practice the faces only. Manga can distort body proportions which can hurt you in the long run but faces are pretty easy (for me at least). Also study objects and backgrounds.
For books I recommend: Drawing with the Right side of the brain. If you want to do 2d animation, then I say try AAU (Im a student) I would recommend Calarts which is the top 2d college but it sounds like your skills will not be up to par. If you are willing to get to that standard with a year or two of practice check out their site for requirements of portfolio. I also recommend picking up a more cartoony/disney style as it will be more excepted when you graduate for your reel. If you want 3d tell us state you live in and I can recommend colleges for that region

Well I can tell you that drawing anime isn't easy, you have to put a lot of detail. I go to a trade school and my trade is design and visual. The teacher always tells me that I draw good. But I don't draw anime. I draw cartoons. I also try to draw anime, and I can, it's just not my thing. I watch avatar the last airbender(i know it's not an anime) and when I do draw anime I refer to that and Full Metal Alchemist. What you can do is refer to some of your favorite anime shows. It'll be much easier and give you some inspiration. I can tell you how to start the head by using guidelines. First Draw a circle, it'll be for the cranium. Second Draw the front side of the face with a tiny curve as a cheek bone, start at the highest elevated point on the side of the circle, the front side shouldn't be long though. Then you put the chine by curving it and then it'll lead to the bottom jaw and finally lead up to the other side of the cranium. Sorry if this is confusing, but I hope it helps :)

The best thing you can do is just keep practicing. Try looking up Mark Crilley on youtube. He's a published manga artist and author who has TONS of how-to-draw tutorials for various different manga styles or subject matter. He has a new video every Friday. :)
