Is it bad if my cat sleeps on a heating pad?

He sleeps next to me so he's not unattended. I also massage him with an electric massager sometimes, too. I like to spoil my cat because I feel like there are so many animals in the world suffering, I want to at least make my little boy happy.

Update:

I didn't know heating pads were so dangerous!

Having your cat sleep on a heating pad is nothing dangerous in itself. The real danger is the resilience of the heating pad, as well as the chance of a malfunction or spark. Either of these cases could range from your cat being uncomfortably shocked, to your entire house burning down. At least 1 in every 500 houses burned is caused by electrical devices, and 1 in every 800 caused by animals. Putting those numbers together, I'd keep your cat close to you from now on.

My baby girl loves sleeping on her heating pad. I put it under a towel, and it's kept her off my laptop computer, home theater receiver, and other electronics. Cat's hair doesn't just catch on fire either, that's a ridiculous statement. The heating pad I use has never had one instance of starting a fire, let alone burning a house down (Walgreens brand with auto shutoff).

So YES, it's perfectly ok for your cat to sleep on a heating pad. Cats love warmth. Just don't set it on on high, that can get really warm, and be uncomfortable for anyone.

Heating pads should never be on unattended. Cats like to sleep on them but the temp should be no higher than the warm setting.

It will be ok if it's on low and has auto-shut off. And if he seems too hot then turn it off.

i wouldnt because i would worry about his hair catching fire. they can be a real fire hazard. a warm blanket for them to lie on would be safer
