Would it be better for the country if the United States had a federal ballot initiative process?

Or if states' ballot initiatives laws (and federal law) allowed voters to compel their senators and representatives in Congress to vote for or against a bill? Congress seems to get so few things passed, and the people could do much better. Except the legislative branch of the US government does not work this way...

    Yes and no.

    That could bring about changes for the good but can also give citizens the right to take civil rights away from minorities.

    Maybe a federal ballot initiative that forces both houses of congress to vote on the proposal, simple majority rule and no filibusters allowed. There needs to be some safeguards to prevent the mob mentality which can take rights away from citizens.
