Why do people like abusive, coercive, or rape-themed pornography?
I find this type of pornography a little bit disturbing. At the very least, I don't enjoy watching someone else be abused, even if it's acting, unless it's part of a plot or has a high degree of artistic value. This is more about viewers getting aroused by abuse. In which case, why is that so common? Most people who enjoy this content never actually commit sexual assault, and I just don't see the allure in it. What's so sexy about abuse, or coercion?
3 AnswersMovies7 years agoIs it a bad idea or selfish to ask someone out because they like you?
I'm terrible with dating, very little experience At this this party, my friends told me this girl I know looked like she was interested in me. Apparently the signs have been obvious, and she has acted that way for a long time and I just don't see them (I don't see her all that often). Anyway, I do like her as a friend, her personality, and I find her pretty too, but I'm not sure I like her romantically. I've always felt unsure. Now that I see she's interested, I'm wondering if I should make a move. I wouldn't have even thought of that had I not known that.
I don't want to end up with bitterness/mistrust or hurting her emotionally, nor do I want to exploit her feelings.
Would making a move or asking her out be a little bit dishonest/selfish? Or should i just try to get to know her better without actually asking her on a date, in which case how would i do that?

1 AnswerPhysics7 years agoHow should I approach this girl?
So there is this girl who I like living right below me (college dorm but apartment style living). I seldom seem to run into her by chance. 1.5 weeks ago I saw her at a party at a mutual friend's house. Talked and got to know her a little bit, added on facebook. Since then I haven't seen or contacted her except earlier today I saw her coming in the door of the building but wasn't sure it was her at first, and once I noticed it was her I was too nervous/overwhelmed to say anything to her. How should I contact/talk to/get to know her without seeming strange or awkward. I am not very confident socially, and especially feel awkward initiating contact with people except when I happen to see them in person. Should I knock on her door? At this point it would seem strange to me. Send a text/IM? I don't know. I guess I just don't know how to approach her. If you find me or my question silly, please let me know. I have very little experience with relationships/dating.
1 AnswerSingles & Dating8 years agoI only feel the urge to smoke while I am drunk. Why is that?
I know that nicotine is supposedly extremely addictive, and apparently hard to quit, from all the smokers I see. I smoke once every 2 weeks or so, but don't feel an urge to smoke unless I'm drunk. Why do i feel an urge to smoke when I'm drunk? Also, when (what frequency of use) does nicotine get addictive, or does it just depend on the person. I'm just curious, because it still surprises me how many daily tobacco smokers there are, even young people. It has been this way for me for 2 years, and I still only smoke with such frequency, so don't tell me that I might get addicted any day.
4 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits8 years agoI always smell cannabis at one point on my run. Does that mean it is growing there?
I always smell weed at one point on my run along a ditch at the side of a field (it's a public path). I stopped to see if i could find the source but I couldn't. Right now there is snow on the ground so maybe it's buried. Does that mean someone is growing it there, or am i smelling something else that smells similar? Does cannabis smell while it's growing? I wouldn't do take it or anything, I'm just curious if my suspicions could be correct?
5 AnswersGarden & Landscape8 years agoHow long does an ebay seller have to open an unpaid item case against a buyer?
I am unable to pay a seller whom I have contacted and is unresponsive. Since it has been over a week, I don't really want the item anymore but will pay for it if the seller fixes his problems soon. My question is how long does the seller have to open an unpaid item case. Is there a time limit? If the seller doesn't get their act together will my obligation to pay for the item disappear at some point?
3 AnswersOther - Internet8 years agoWhat is the difference between a gross receipts tax and corporate (income) tax?
Is the gross receipts tax on total revenue, and a corporate tax on net income?
On a side note, am I correct to say that sales taxes are different in that they are only applied to the final revenue earned from a sale to a final consumer, and VAT is also different, as it is applied on the net income earned from sales, even if not to the final consumer.
What is the best model for taxing businesses, in your opinion?
1 AnswerOther - Taxes8 years agoWhy are lubricant eye drops so expensive (at Target)?
A 1 fl oz bottle of lubricant eye drops from Target (US) costs $10.19 where I am. That seems like a lot of money for something like that. Active ingredients are Glycerin 0.3%, and Propylene Glycol 1.0%, both "lubricant"s. At Walmart, I found a 0.5 fl oz bottle of a seemingly similar product for $0.97. Instead, the active ingredients are Polyvinyl alcohol 0.5% and Povidone 0.6%, again both listed as "lubricant". Why does the one cost 5 times as much for the amount of liquid? I'm quite confused.
1 AnswerOptical8 years agoWould it be better for the country if the United States had a federal ballot initiative process?
Or if states' ballot initiatives laws (and federal law) allowed voters to compel their senators and representatives in Congress to vote for or against a bill? Congress seems to get so few things passed, and the people could do much better. Except the legislative branch of the US government does not work this way...
1 AnswerGovernment8 years agoHow long after taking hydrocodone is it safe and legal to drive?
This is in Montana, USA. When I search this I never get a straight answer. After taking a 10-350 hydrocodone/APAP pill, how long will it take for the effects to fully wear off. I've seen people asking if it's ok to drive while taking them, but I don't drive under the influence of narcotic drugs or alcohol unless I absolutely have to. Do I have to wait about 6 hours, longer, or even a few days?
Thank you.
Medicine8 years agoWhy do I not remember waking up to my alarm and pressing the "snooze" button?
When it goes off again and I finally get up? Also, when I was living at home my mom would holler at me while I was still in bed to ask if I was up and I would say "yes", go back to sleep, and have no recollection of the events when I finally get up. How long after waking up does your memory finally kick in so that you can remember the event later on?
4 AnswersOther - Science8 years agoWhy was the minimum age to possess and smoke marijuana under the ballot initiatives set to 21?
Why was the minimum age to possess and smoke marijuana under the ballot initiatives set to 21 in Colorado and Washington?
What is the significance of age 21 in this case, as the age of majority in both states is 18?
Setting the same age as for alcohol isn't on its own sufficient justification for choosing that age. Tobacco for example, is available at 18 in both states. Perhaps marijuana is deemed more hazardous?
Hopefully, MIP laws will be instituted to replace older possession laws for possession of amounts of pot below the legal limit for those over 21. This will make the offense unambiguously and solely based on an individual's age.

2 AnswersChemistry8 years agoWhy is during marriage not considered sinful when all sex outside of marriage is?
For those who believe that sex outside of marriage is sinful and immoral, why is sex within marriage not considered sinful? To engage in sex is to succumb to lust, a vice. But wouldn't it make more sense if all sex, even within marriage was considered sinful too? I find it interesting that this belief is relatively uncommon. By the way, I do not believe that consensual sex is immoral or sinful, and it is a personal decision by those involved. Also, there is no necessity to have children or reproduce... The world might be better off that way too.
2 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender8 years agoWhen do counties start to report election results?
How long after polling closes will counties begin to report results. I know different polling time windows and time zones will affect this. Do all counties report results to the public, or only after all counties in the states have reported results to the state (in some states)? I'm eager to find out the results to some of these close races.
2 AnswersElections9 years agoHow are Judges typically replaced if voted off in a retention election/referendum?
Ballot language makes it clear that you are voting for them to be retained in office, or to be removed from office. But if they are removed, what happens to the position? How is a new judge selected?
1 AnswerElections9 years agoWhat is the difference between "ɸ" and "φ"?
They are encoded as seperate characters, not fonts, but both are lowercase forms of the greek letter phi.
3 AnswersProgramming & Design9 years agoIs entry without inspection a crime?
Is entry without inspection a crime for citizens (in the United States)? If a US citizen crosses an open stretch of border without contacting immigration authorities, is this a criminal offense? It is for non-citizens, I know, but citizens have the right to be in the US anyway. You could be apprehended and possibly detained, I know for a fact, but I wonder if you'd be charged with a crime... Once citizenship is proven there is no need to be denied entry. But if it was a crime, you could be fined or sent to prison.
There are a number of reasons why one would want to do this, but it's not me, and I won't discuss them.
