Just Think About It: Do Jehovah's Witnesses Follow the "Watchtower" or GOD?

Now, anti-Jehovah's Witnesses. Before you copy and paste that non-sense of information, saying that we do "Whatever the Tower tells us to do", just think about something for a second.

We can go-and-on about this, my friends. Jehovah's Witnesses have done nothing but preach, teach, and live from the words of the Bible, ever from since day one. We don't follow mortal man. The Governing Body is there to guide us and keep things intact. We do not follow them or worship them. We follow and worship Jehovah God. Why do you think we call ourselves "Jehovah's Witnesses"? We don't refer to ourselves as "The Watchtower's Witnesses".

"The Watchtower" is the most widely circulated magazine in the world. A magazine, published by us, that contains the words of the Bible, brought out in a way that everyone can understand and learn from. Just as a teacher would teach her class by means of using a textbook, we teach others the lessons found within the Bible by means of the Watchtower, Awake! and other publications.

"The Watchtower Bible Tract Society of Pennyslvania" is our legal name. That is the name used for legal purposes. Other than that, our name is indeed "Jehovah's Witnesses."

We live to please God. We live to preach and teach others about Him, by means of the greatest tool of all - His Inspired Word ~ The Bible. We do not have any man-made false doctrines. We teach, live, preach, by the Bible.

So ~ Do you still believe that we follow the "Tower"? Even if you know we don't, are you going to continue spreading lies about us? - If you are, well fine. But that doesn't make it the truth.

At the end of the day, we know who we are. = Jehovah's Witnesses.

We know who we live to please = Jehovah God

We know who we follow = God and His Son Jesus Christ

We know who's words we believe in = God's Words

We know who will judge all at the end of the day for their actions = JEHOVAH GOD

@Old Timer Too ~ Did you ignore everything I just said? I won't bother to repeat, for it is right there.

@Voice of the Wilderness ~ Looks like someone is a bit confused in our beliefs. What proof do you have of the big claims you just exclaimed?

Update 3:

(3) E D I T:

= = = = = = = =

@Consider This ~ I already explained what the information in our literature. ALL OF IT, contains information from the words of the Bible. What religion doesn't have some form of literature? Like I said before ~ just as a teacher uses a textbook to teach her students and lesson, and better help them understand, we use our literature to teach people the words of the Bible, and help them to better understand. That's why we use our literature when preaching and teaching others. But yet, all that information comes from the Bible. We even cite which scriptures the information exactly came from.

We rely completely on the Bible ~ as I've just explained. Without it, how could we even have our literature, if that's where it is created from, hm? How can we live a life in accordance to the way God wants it, if we didn't have the Bible right now? ~ The Bible is our life source. That's what we live by, and what we preach and teach with - because

Update 4:

it's GOD'S INSPIRED WORD.

Also, how do you know that video took a lot of money to produce? It's just a short video about something that holds a big place in our history. Seeing how we thrive on the Bible, and that the sole purpose of our organization is to preach and teach the words of the Bible - technically that IS advertising the Bible. We always advertise the Bible.

Update 5:

(4) E D I T:

= = = = = = = =

@ Mr.X ~ What PROOF do you have of this? We haven't *added* anything new to the Scriptures. We have simply restored what was previously there, and have now modified it into a modern - easier to understand language.

Many of our publications contain quotes from MANY other popular translations of the Bible, and we cite the exact translation it was taken from. Open up a NWT and open up a KJV Bible, and put them side-by-side, and you'll have virtually the same text. Only difference is that we've corrected the many errors of the KJV, and have restored God's name to it's rightful place.

You say the "Internet agrees that it's a corrupt book". Does that make it FACT? People on the Internet say many things. Does that automatically make it the TRUTH?

"Oh, it's on the Internet - so it must be true." HAH! That is a very foolish mindset to have, my friend. You don't need to be Einstein to know that the things on the

Actually, you really do follow what comes from the Watchtower publications in your study of the Bible. The rest of it is deflecting the reality of how you operate and no amount of denials is going to change the fact that you hand out and attempt to start conversations, not on the Bible, but on the latest offering from the Watchtower.

    TDs expected from die-hard JWs.

Added: What about "personal experience" do you not understand?

2nd Add: You are telling me that you ignore what is published in the Watchtower magazine when you study the Bible? Interesting, but also highly doubtful. Your credibility gap just got wider.

Yes a "superb gain knowledge of", weeds which are planted among the wheat now not break away the wheat, these weeds are planted via satan and will also be right amongst us and that is why we comply with what the Bible teaches and not man and is the cause why we are so uniformed in our religion world huge. These weeds are what produces apostates and they are so handy to expose on the grounds that they don't follow scriptural suggest, but there are weeds that undermine us if we do not hold our eyes wide open, they convey in dissension's talk about our brothers, they're murmurous and main issue makers and very judgmental of others. More often than not the reality alterations these sort of people they usually put on the brand new personality but for those who convey in worldly actions these are weeds and we must constantly be on look after and not underestimate our adversary satan the devil. Did you know that Wycliffe and Tyndale have been Catholics, Wycliffe was a priest and Tyndale was once a bishop both were put to loss of life with the aid of the Roman Catholic church and the man that murdered Tyndale was once made a saint by means of the catholic church and a bit later had a disagreement with the catholic church so that they put him to demise although that they had made him a saint? How any sane individual could be a catholic after discovering the catholic church is beyond me, they had been a murderous lot that put to demise any person who disagreed with them!

You very well put to good use the information compiled and no doubt it's the Bible we follow, The Watchtower uses the topical method to help us to understand the Bible and is just a bible aid. By this method all the information on a certain subject contained in all the sixty-six books of the Bible is brought together and compiled in a logical and orderly manner. This is necessary because the Bible, being largely historical, is written in a running style, and therefore, with few exceptions, does not treat comprehensively any one teaching at one place. This is also true because many of the false teachings that now confuse professed Christians were unknown among the servants of Jehovah in times past; the truth was taken for granted. In rounding out this topical method of study The Watchtower takes note of the meaning of the words in the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek languages, and it also takes into consideration the context of the texts it cites to prove a point.

These haters here seem unable to understand the Watchtower is only a magazine. It has great information in them as it continually quotes what the Bible says from many translations. That is another thing. They can't seem to get that we use many different translations. Identified by notations where the scripture is noted. Some are Catholic translations, while others are Protestant. Since they are, then are they objecting to us pointing things out they deny from their own Bibles?

Which is more important, answering your question. Romans 3:4 answers, "Never may that happen! But let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, even as it is written: “That you might be proved righteous in your words and might win when you are being judged.”

Jehovah God is who we obey and worship. Never any humans.

Those that think we follow the Watchtower never ever be caught reading a newspaper because with their views they are followers of the publisher of that newspaper!

We follow what the Bible teaches, we have published a study aid with the title "What Does the Bible Really Teach? Not what does the Watchtower Really Teach?

Those that make that claim should examine their thinking because it explains their thinking and just because the Watchtower is the largest publish publication with the largest distribution in the world does not mean we follow it, we follow what is written in it's pages because what's written in it's pages are Bible stories with scriptural reference as to where in the Bible this is written.

If we want to find out where are the dead, we have articles in the Watchtower that shows us where every scripture that deals with the subject of where the dead are as there's hundreds of scriptures pertaining to that subject, by doing this we get a clear understanding not like false teachers that read a scripture and form an opinion that is not Bible based like the immortal soul because the Bible says souls die example(Ezekiel 18:4(KJ) 4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Because we have taken the time and researched God's word we don't fall under what is said at 2 Corinthians 4:3,4, the truth is not veiled and our minds are not blinded by Satan the Devil!

The Jehovah Witness dont go by the word of God

Because they add to scripture and take away scripture.

    But avoid foolish questions,

    and genealoies, and conten-

    tions, and strivings about the

    law; for they are unprofitable

    and vain. TITUS 3:9 KJV

The New World Translation is not the word of God. But compiled by the Jehovah Witness to read

the way they want it to read. The Internet considers it to be a corrupt book. And the same way I

find the information about the New World Translation being not the word of God. Phooey, you dont

have any prove that the New World Translation is the word of God. Dont fool yourself into believing

    that it is.

There's no way that the New World Translation is accurate. There are too many verses in it that,

takes away from scripture, as well as, adding to scripture, words that dont belong. It doesn't manner what man may believe, about the Bible, and it's accuracy. God's word will not return void.

What ever you chose to read is your business. I will read the King James Version. I know about the New World Translation. And I know that it isn't an accurate account of the scriptures. Now I

have my opinion and you have yours.

    For thereare three that bear

    record in heaven, the Father,

the Word, and the Holy Ghost:

and there three are one. 1 JOHN 5:7

This verse is taken from the Word of God.

If you dont believe what the verse says, you

have that right. This verse appears in this Bible.

If dont believe what the verse says, then you dont

    believe the Word of God.

God will honor his word. And if

you dont chose to believe it, then that's your right.

    JOHN 1:1

IN the beginning was the Word, and the

Word was with God, and the Word was God. KJV

In the beginnig the Word was, and the Word

was with God, and the Word was a god. NWT

    JOHN 1:1

The New World Translation changes this verse.

the Word was, where in KJV, it says this: was the Word

And the NWT says: was a god. And the KJV says: was God.

    See the difference.

Now you tell me if that's not prove.

The New World Translation changes scripture to suit themselves.

Again: God honors his Word. Not a book that does not honor his Word.

Jehovah's Witnesses follow the Bible. The Watchtower is a magazine that has many interesting articles and advise from the Bible. Satan's gang will probably have a lot of other ridiculous answers. Before you give me thumbs down, am I speaking about you as one of Satan's gang? If you are not in Satan's gang, why would you take offense?

In order of your four questions:

Q1* The info in your publications comes from selections from the New World Translation, documented misquotes from secular authority, and recontexted quotes from other biblical translations. There are interviews found online, audio and video, that involve people quoted by Watchtower publications. They are vocal and talk about being misquoted. Good luck with denying it if it's not writing. But you'll probably claim "editing tricks."

Q2* They teach with the New World Translation, a book created by men from the Watchtower Society. You'll argue that Witnesses will go the extra length of using other bibles, but I've had the "pleasure" of a Witness using my family's King James. Any discrepencies between the two translations is explained like "this is what it really says and you'll see that it's found in my bible, which is more accurate."

Q3* Your beliefs come from an understanding of scripture by the Governing Body of the Watchtower Society. Currently they come up with "new light" and their President gets final say. Mind you, it's not the president of Jehovah's Witnesses. It's Watchtower President Don Adams. You can try to argue it all you want, but there aren't 7 million Witnesses fluent in Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic. And I know from your rants that you aren't, either. That means you didn't come to understand context yourself. You studied with other brothers who don't know ancient languages. They studied with brothers and Elders who aren't fluent in ancient languages. So you got your context and understanding and beliefs from someone who isn't you or your Elder.

As I pointed out in another question you answered, the current Jehovah's Witness belief is that the Governing Body is the Faithful and Discreet Slave, not the 144,000. Where did that understanding come from? Considering it's based off of calling a parable a prophecy, something no one did for 1500 years, you can't honestly say all 7 million of you happened to "understand" it at the same time. The WTS changed the doctrine, published it, and you're stuck believing it.

If you refused to believe the "new light" you would get counseled and if you still openly didn't believe, you'd be removed. Mind you, the disfellowshipping policy is created by the WTS, not Scripture. See "Shepherd the Flock" for a detailed list of offenses worth disfellowshipping, most of which are not scriptural in origin. Shepherd the Flock is an Elder's naual. So it's produced by the Watchtower Society. Actually, when you open the book, it says the WTS produced the book. Nowhere does it list Jehovah's Witnesses as intellectual credit.

Q4* Your religion was created by a Millerite tailor who was disillusioned when the Millerite End Times prophecy failed. He wanted to create a movement where people studied the bible and didn't get it wrong. He came up with two failed end times prophecies. After he died, his Bible Students fractured into two groups. The Bible Students, who became irrelevant, and Judge Rutherford's Jehovah's Witnesses (he coined the term). Rutherford told people Millions Living Now Will Never Die. It was a campaign he went around the country promoting. He wrote a book that became a New York Times Best Seller. So it's impossible to deny the head of "Jehovah's Earthly Organization" wrote it, or any other rewording of it.

Your religion came from a dry cleaner and was tailored to it's current state by an alcoholic who wrote "prohibition is the devil's work."

If you want people to "really think" about something, don't give your answer first. And if you want to rant or have your friends thumbs me down, publicly prove me wrong with evidence. Not rants. If this is about truth, opinions don't have a place.

Edit: Even the proponents of the New World Translation (the ones who say it's accurate) say they don't agree with adding the name Jehovah to the New Testament 200+ times. Some also disagree with kyrios meaning one thing but the Society changes it depending on it's association with Jesus or Jehovah. Maybe adding "a" to John 1:1 to say the "word was a God" is why some feel the WTS added things to scripture. Who cares if they have a word for "a" or not (they don't). If you add something that isn't their, you're creating context.

Edit: Hilarious. Everything I said can be documented online and offline and in Kingdom Halls. Nothing was insulting. And I challenged the JWs to produce Truth instead of giving me a thumbs down. A religion that calls themselves "The Truth" that thumbs down provable, documented REAL Truth.

Source(s): Lifelong Agnostic. So you JWs can't play the "Apostate" card. And I'm very much proJW as I am pro education. Just very much anti cult, anti WTS.

Ah, I love when people quote jw(non)facts and their misquotes. If they bothered to post the WHOLE article they would have found that this was the discussion of the question.

It is commendable for individuals to want to use their thinking ability in support of the good news. However, no personal pursuit should detract from what Jesus Christ is accomplishing through his congregation on earth today. In the first century, the apostle Paul warned about getting involved in exhausting, time-consuming subjects, such as “genealogies, which end up in nothing, but which furnish questions for research rather than a dispensing of anything by God in connection with faith.” (1 Tim. 1:3-7) All Christians should strive to “shun foolish questionings and genealogies and strife and fights over the Law, for they are unprofitable and futile.”—Titus 3:9.

Having put that aside, we see how people have such misguided ideas about us. 99% come from what other men say but WE are the ones who listen to men? I believe the word for that is HYPOCRITES!!

No, we follow the Bible and what it contains to follow. People will say we don't since we buck the trend of "do as you wish as long as you pray to be forgiven" nonsense churches teach. We value Bible principles, something this world is lacking since churches don't value them, let alone teach them. We also draw the ire of people for teaching the truth of God, the true gospel of Jesus and rejecting the heresies they value over scripture.

I pay them no mind when they call is cult and brainwashed. They learned that from others so guess what, it applies to them too. Oh, the irony.

Edit:@ Mr.X- Don't fool yourself into thinking it's not. You have no PROOF it isn't except for your normal blathering. Your internet info is as flawed as your bogus argument against it.

Mr X- Since you are so stuck on the adding part without ANY proof, perhaps you can tell all of us why the KJV has added to 1 John 5:7 words that do not appear in any text. Research it for yourself.

If you truly feature and follow the bible, then why does your organization spend millions of dollars publishing and advertising literature they print?

There is a perfect example of this mindset found on your own website, an expensively produced video about a sign constructed in 1969. Was it promoting the bible? No it was promoting the magazine WATCHTOWER!

    Here is the link:http://www.jw.org/en/news/by-region/americas/unite...

On the very first visit you promote your (interpretations) literature, and follow up with more literature at every call. The bible is only used to reference each paragraph in the magazine or book. So it is very obvious who each jw relies upon, not the bible but the literature and what that writer thinks the bible actually says.

They follow God. The Watchtower is Bible based and only a tool used to explain the Bible.
