Do pagans still exist?
I have a friend and she says she is a pagan, but didn't that way of beliefs die off after civilization started? I just want to now if she is pulling my chain.

Absolutely pagans exist. Christians used that term to address non-believers. The word today is commonly used to refer to people following non-Judeo-Christian religion. That means there are billions of pagans in the world.
After civilization started? The cultures of Greece and Rome were pagan. They're considered the foundation of western civilization! Egyptians, Babylonians, Sumerians, Aztecs, all of those people were pagan, and all of them were civilizations.
Because she describes herself as a pagan, she is probably a neopagan: she follows a 20th century religion drawing influence from older pagan religions. It's not scary. It's not uncivilized.

Your first mistake is thinking that pagan practices died off. They have survived over the years within Christianity, tribes and small families. Your second mistake is saying when "civilization started", define what civilization is, because by technicality the Roman Empire, the Greeks, the Celts, the Dynasties of China, etc... were all civilizations and lo and behold, were all pagan based in nature.
Yes Pagans do still exist, many of us are re-constructionists who aim to bring back the respect and reverence for nature and find ourselves more enlightened by the old practices than those of a monotheistic nature. If your friend is a practicing pagan and says so, then it's probably so and she's not jerking your chain. You have practicing modern day shamans, wiccans, traditional celt witches, etc... and all are considered Pagan.

Pagans created civilization, Christians started the dark ages. And yes we still exist. Some however prefer not to use the word Pagan. Those who follow the Nordic Gods are called Heathens, and those who follow the Olympian Gods are called Hellenic Polytheists. Pagan usually is used to describe Wiccans, Celts, Druids and Eccentric Pagans (those follow different gods from different pantheons).

Yes.
Like everything else, it has likely evolved.
