what are feminist and why do people have such an angry reaction towards them?

I have google feminist and I don't understand why people don't like feminist. Is it that people don't truly understand the word feminist or is there a much bigger picture that I don't see? What makes one a feminist?

The Feminists are a political action group that think that women should have the same rights as men, nothing more. Equal pay for equal work, etc. Sick leave for maternity showed the 1st chink, as most men just let the women do it.

They are misunderstood because their opposition is in a position to make The Big Lie, spreading misinformation when not outright lying.

I think It's the man haters that get most of the negative attention. Hate begat the hate type of stuff. One is somewhat generalized towards a whole gender and the ripple that flows back from the other side of the pool is somewhat generalized towards the feminist. In reality though all men are not a certain way and all feminists are not a certain way.

Gender, race, sexual orientation, religious backgrounds, and even class tend to have the same issues in their own respects. Many solutions are logical, but some just make good jokes on 'Family Guy.'

I consider myself a feminist. And to me, a feminist is somebody that strives to have women treated with dignity and respect. We seek to fix the gender gap, since women still get paid about 17% less than men. It's things like this that we want to fix. We want womanhood to be about having brains and being strong, not about having breasts. But feminism is about CHOICE. It's about the freedom to choose your path and not be controlled by a man.

To answer the next part of your question, I think a lot of people, especially men, are threatened by feminists. There is, in my opinion, a lot of propaganda that goes on with it.

PS: To the person below me, I don't care try to control men. I believe relationships should be equal and fair. I do not think I'm better than any man or woman. I suggest you read my description of feminism above. All of my feminist friends subscribe to this theory.

Feminism is an Ideology of HATRED.

the answerer ot3p is a victim of feminist dogma.

Feminism seeks to destroy, redefine and rewrite entirely our concepts of men, women, children and family itself. it is a truly truly vile thing.

Feminism hides its social agendas...wich have NOTHING to do with equality... behind that veneer, it likes to pass itself off as being one and the same thing.

many women are simply brainwashed in that regard. and even worse... delude themselves into thinking there are different "kinds" or "levels" of feminism and women themselves give undo legitimacy to the word "feminism" ...adding to the conditioning that something so vile be acceptable.

what happens, is that Any dissent to feminist SOCIAL agendas.... becomes the "same thing" as being against say.... womens right to vote.

this is where the craven hatred lives.

for example... do you think a woman who has had a couple of partners is a slut? how about a dozen? how about a hundred?

feminism will seek to equate ANY critism of promiscuity as essentially being "the same thing" as not wanting women to have the right to vote.

its "sexist", mysoginistic, its meant to control women, on and on it goes.... this SOCIAL agenda has nothing to do with equality.... and everything to do with destroying existing cultural norms.

in this way, promiscuity is encouraged ... especially in young girls, so that victimized young girls grow into women that are the last thing a decent man who would stick it out for a lifetime would want.

you see in feminist dogma...putting pressure on men not to sleep around doesnt exist. telling women not lay down with promiscuous men doesnt exist. a "decent" guy does not exist.

you see, its not about equality in this respect... getting men to stop doing what women have always hated... that would be the LAST THING feminists want, as that would strengthen relationships between men and women.

what does exist are things like .... "if they can do it, why cant you"....

getting women to emulate the worst behaviors of men...that women have always hated.

encouraging any social behaviors that are nothing but destructive when it comes to family and relationships. and again...any dissent to these social ideas become "the same thing" as being against legal equality.

    that IS what feminism is.

this hatred is not only aimed at men, its aimed at women themselves.... women who still hold any semblence of traditional values.

its why a woman who has had a few partners in her life before settling down.... has to keep her mouth shut and pretend that slut whose had hundreds of men,has 4 different kids with different fathers.. is a woman "just like her", just as "normal", how do you try to critisize it.

and little boys and girls watch and learn this message.
