Mr. Wayne LaPierre's statement about?

having off-duty police officers guarding our schools? He's the CEO of NRA (National Rifle Association and huge supporter of our 2nd amendment rights, for our non-USA friends). He made the point about how we safeguard so much of our stuff in life (money in banks with guards carrying guns, sky marshals carrying guns, nightclubs with armed security, etc), why not our schools?

i'd like to see this happen myself, leaving our children exposed and defenseless is just crazy

yoiur thoughts?

Sad to say, but I do think our school should have metal detectors, armed security guards, and security cams through out the building. I'm not even opposed to teachers being armed.

The thing is, when these incidences happen, an assault weapons are used that kill hundreds of people per minute, 15 teachers armed with a pistol won't do much good.

But, better safe than sorry. We should strengthen our gun laws, make waiting times longer for applications, do better security checks on people who are buying ESPECIALLY assault weapons. Who would need one, and why?

And maybe have automatic lock downs of class room doors at the push of a button by school personnel.

It's so sad to have to think this way, but children are precious and should be guarded with every thing we have.

The ubiquitous solution the NRA proposes to gun violence is more guns. Always. It never fails. Half the country could murder the other half with assault rifles and the problem wouldn’t be that perhaps machine guns were too easy to get, but they were too difficult, as demonstrated by the fact 50% of the population didn’t own an AK-47.

The problem is cultural and it is societal. But, it is also guns. We’re unique in the civilized world concerning gun violence and murder rate in general. Consider the murder rate in the United States compared to other Western Democracies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_...

Consider the percentage of murder committed with firearms.

Are we honestly to believe that the ease of access and sheer number of guns, and assault grade ones at that, has absolutely nothing to do with the reason the United States is a much more violent place than England, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, etc.?

Owning a military grade weapon in most of the rest of the world is all but illegal. It isn’t here. Yet, no matter how many people die, no matter how much violence there is, people stick their fingers in their ears and shout that guns aren’t the problem.

I’m not saying that all guns should be illegal. If you got a small prick and it makes you feel like a man to go out and shoot a deer, but all means, do so. But, assault weapons belong in the hands of the military and law enforcement, not the general public. And don’t even start about how you need those weapons to “protect yourself from the government.” These Republican gun enthusiasts would literally defecate themselves if actually confronted by a highly armed trained soldiers. That, or they’d be dead in seconds. It’s a stupid argument.

FBI statistics show that more people are killed with baseball bats than guns.

Same day in China, 22 kids stabbed by lunatic.

Problem with officers in schools is money. Who pays?

If we can find out why this happening then we can find a real solution. Drugs are a problem too. All of these shooters have mental problems and the gun laws already address that portion of the problem but appears ineffective.

I live in the UK. I watched his speech. It was on our news. He sounded like he had the intelligence of a goldfish. He blamed the sandy hook murders on everything but the actual problem - guns. He totally misread the situation and honestly you cant say this is the start of a dialogues and then.. NO QUESTIONS.

As a British person reading, watching, and writing about this: America is a violent society. Guns are a problem, not a solution. Archaic.

Its a sick society where elementary schools require armed guards to protect the childrens lives..

I honestly dont think our society is that sick yet..these are still one-off incidents, we should look at why they are becoming more common instead of putting armed guards everywhere.
