Can my computer break if I keep it nonstop on?

    Yes. You definitely want to have your computer off during any kind of storm where you might lose power or take a power surge/lightning strike (& you should have it plugged into a surge protector all the time).

    Computers actually use quite a bit of power when they're on. Best thing to do is turn the computer on when you first want to use it & leave it on until you're thru for the day. To reduce power usage when the PC's idle, go into Control Panel, Power Options, & set times for turning the display off & putting the PC to sleep.

    Constantly turning your computer on then off stresses the components more than leaving it on.

    As others said, leaving it on is fine. It will run 24/7 longer than its useful service life as long as the hardware isn't bad and waiting to fail - I leave all mine on.

    A DESKTOP computer typically uses around 120w when idle (screen off). Some high end video cards may be a bit wasteful when idle though.

    Notebooks idle at a negligible 30w max (likely less).

    The fan can wear out but most times, a computer can last many many years even on.

    Think of Video games in arcades. They have a motherboard and fan and all and they are on all the time.
