1996 Lincoln Towncar high miles?
I'm looking at 1996 Lincoln Towncar w/ the 4.6L for $500. The body is fairly nice, it runs good. But it has 306,354 miles... Everything works though. Opinions?

That actually sounds like a pretty good deal. It must have been taken good care of. I would rather have a high mileage car that has been taken care of, than a low mileage car that has been neglected.

The average privately owned vehicle in the USA is expected to have between 10,000 and 15,000 miles per year, so an average 2006 Lincoln should have no more than 105,000 miles on it. The car you are looking at must have been in commercial service for some time in order to run up almost three times the average mileage, BUT commercial vehicles are usually maintained, and for only $500, it's a throw away car. If it breaks, it's too cheap to repair. You just call the salvage yard to come and get it, and go find something else to drive.

It's a no brainer.Just presume that it will last you for a year. For $500.? That is the average monthly payment for a car right now. Keep up with the maintenance and it might last you longer than you expected.

it will be good for at least 100k miles. probably was a limo.
these cars last forever. ive seen 80's town cars with over 1 million miles.

expect to get no more than 6 months use out of the car before you leave parts all over the hwy.
