Getting started in Dungeons and Dragons ?
I was thinking about playing Dungeons and Dragons I really like board games, RPG's and things alike. I used to play Warhammer 40k a lot, I also play MTG. So I understand the basics of the dice and such but really I know nothing about DandD
I asked my friends if they'd be interested in playing and starting a group, But only one of my friends really wants to and he still doesn't think he wants to. But anyhow I don't really know were to start with the DandD thing, I've heard of something called the red box starter set, I was thinking thats what I should buy, But what does the starter box come with ? and how much is it gonna set me back ? I'm only 14 so I can't be spending alot of money :P And because my friends dont wanna play Ill just go to my local game store.

You already know people who play MTG and Warhammer so finding RPG players should not be too hard. Strategy, CCG and RPG gamers tend to run in the same circles.
I'm honestly surprised you can't spend a lot of money because Warhammer 40K is one of the most expensive geek hobbies around.
Anyway, you want to see what's in the Red Box? This video shows a guy unpacking and itemizing it.

You need more than 2 people to play.
Modern D&D requires a Player's Handbook, a Dungeon Master's Handbook, and a few other books like a Monster Manual, and maybe a few pre-planned scenarios. It will cost about $50, but you probably can find them used. I still have all my first edition D&D book.
If you want to get your friends motivated to play, take them to the Hobbit movie, or have a Lord of the Rings movie marathon.

If there are human beings already area of a team that are enjoying, determine you come across out which version they are utilising. because of the fact the others reported, the main recent version is 4th version, which in basic terms hit shops final month. there are probable an astounding style of prepared communities who have been utilising version 3.5 (or perhaps earlier) and don't plan to alter for now (and the countless variants are no longer nicely matched with one yet another). in spite of the version, the only element you somewhat want as a participant is the participant's practise manual (or PHB). i think the D&D for Dummies e book somewhat in basic terms coated third version instructions - 3.5 further somewhat some greater interior the middle books and greater nonetheless interior the countless enlargement books. the 1st 4E middle e book pared it lower back off to approximately 8 or 9, yet there will be further PHBs popping out (a minimum of one a year) which will enhance issues out lower back. have not got the books reachable, yet IIRC the unique 3.5 instructions have been barbarian, bard, cleric, druid, fighter, monk, paladin, ranger, rogue, sorcerer and wizard. lots of the countless enlargement books (complete Divine, complete Adventurer, and so on.) each and each further a pair greater (like warlock, warmage, scout, beguiler, marshal, and so on.) 4E's unique set of instructions (likewise, IIRC) are cleric, fighter, paladin, wizard, warlock, warlord and rogue. The PHB2 to be printed next year will probable incorporate a minimum of the countless base instructions from 3.5
