2001 Honda Civic is idling rough, shaking on drive when idle?
My 2001 Honda Civic is shaking and making a chugging noise when idle in drive (at stoplights, etc). It barely spits out any RPMs when idle. Just had a tune up. Just got this car from my dad and he's kept it in the garage through the winters. We just had a blizzard here and until that happened it wasn't doing that. There are no puddles when I have it parked so I don't think it's a leak. No smoke coming out of the exhaust.
My boyfriend fiddled with the spark plug wire today that was loose and that seemed to do the trick on my drive to work until about halfway there. Same thing happened driving home and I looked under the hood and the wire wasn't loose. Was fine until I got it home and then it started shaking and chugging again. Anyone have any idea what this might be?
A secondary issue I'm having is that the hood won't latch completely shut. My boyfriend eventually got it to latch the first time we looked at it while I messed with the lever, but he's 2.5 hours away right now. Apparently this is common with 6 and 7th gen honda civics. Not sure how to fix it though. Also please keep in mind I'm a 22 year old car illiterate female. Go easy on me here. Plain english.

Unlike the vacuum leak answer I read your question and you mentioned before the blizzard it didnt act that way. Well there are a few things that come to mind one is the possibility that moisture got into your fuel system. Go get a red bottle of heat 2.59, or try and find Lucas injector cleaner and fuel conditioner (really good stuff) the next thing to replace is the air filter you might have an air flow restriction. Start with the small stuff before you go paying a shop to rebuild your motor. A full service tuneup wont hurt anyway and it might get your problem taken care of just add some heat and fuel treatment too.

Sounds like the vacum hose. It could need to be replaced and check if it is even connected.

i would be checking for any vacuum leaks ! the engine won,t run right if there,s a vacuum hose off or broke !

vacuum leak! your throttle body is closed at idle.
your engine produces vacuum when your cylinders.....ah F*** it...you have a vacuum leak. bring it to a shop it will be a cheap fix.
