will cellotex insulation sweat behind a shower?

My builders blocked up a doorway with plasterboard and cellotex insulation behind. The wall was plastered and then tiled to form part of the shower. A year on, the tiles are coming away from the wall.On investigating i found the plaster and plaster board to be soaking wet and the cellotex appears to be sweating. Would i be better to remove it all and fill the space with ordinary fibre glass?

    The insulation isn't your problem:

    1. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use drywall (plasterboard) around a shower. It's not waterproof. Use Hardy-board or some other cement board. Cement board can take the moisture. drywall can't. That simple.

    2. Your builder didn't install a vapor barrier. A simple sheet of plastic between the wall board and the wall proper.

Sounds like your builder got cheap (as so many of them do nowadays.) You can sue (and wait for the courts) or you can have it redone correctly. (I would do both.) There really isn't a repair for shoddy original work.

there is a special sheeting that you can buy from tile shops, that you apply to the wall with tile adhesive, its waterproofed against leakage through the tiles grout,

Its not cheap,it cost about £50 for so many metres.Celotex is great in the right condidtions, but not where water can penetrate, tear it it down and start again.

I think your builders are dodgey

I don't know.... at least if i did, I wouldn't know it! But i thought taking a shower was supposed to get rid of the sweat?? That's the whole point of taking a shower!!
