You are not considered a public charge by receiving Food Stamps (renamed to SNAP a few years ago)- you can access food stamp rules as they apply to non-citizen's via the USDA website here:

    http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/government/pdf/Non-Ci...

    This document states the following:

Public charge. There is a perception that participating in SNAP could affect immigration

status or hurt a non-citizen’s chances of becoming an American citizen, but this is not true.

It is important for non-citizens to know they will not be deported, denied entry to the

country, or denied permanent status because they apply for or receive SNAP benefits.

Also, your application for food stamps will take into account any income that your household has, allowable deductions, but will only certify you and your child. If you need any other information, just message me

You are required to prove you earn enough to support yourself, your son, any other dependents you may have, plus the person you propose to sponsor, i.e. your wife, and prove you have a home for all of you. If you collect any public benefits, e.g. food stamps (now called SNAP), you are not supporting yourself & son, so how do you think you can support a wife, too?

"Fixing her papers?" What's her status in the US? If she is an illegal alien, there is NO way to legalize an illegal alien. No alternative but for her to return to her country of citizenship. She will be barred from reentry, so she may as well go home & apply for your immigration to her country. Her child has automatic birthright to citizenship in her country of citizenship - she only needs to get her child a passport from her country's nearest consulate.

BTW, as a student, you are not eligible to apply for SNAP. You could work to support all of you, and it appears you chose to cut your working hours? Hardworking taxpayers are not supporting you, or your child, or your immigrant-spouse.

If you don't meet the income requirements for a family of three, then don't expect your wife's visa petition to be approved. Clearly, you are not serious about her at all. Now WHYYYYYY would the U.S. Government want to bring in another mouth for the taxpayer to feed, when her "sponsor" is already sucking on the public teat?

The dad will have to prove that he can support him; evidence would need to be from how much money is in the bank, or the folks from Yemen would have to be able to support him. He cannot become a public charge if admitted. It could be an uphill battle though.

you dont say how far you are into the process .. but your affidavit of support has to be met with enough income .. you use the phrase fixing papers .. that usually relates to illegals ..who of course cannot adjust status
