What can I do about this since police is not doing crab?

I just wittnessed our neighbor's teenage son and two other friends of him shoot with a pellet gun at their dog and drive off. The dog first yiped and is now just sitting there. When I called the Police the officer only ask me, " did you ask the young men why they did that? Well, when they come back you can ask them then.

I am shaking bad right now. Is there anything else I can do?

Update:

We live in a small town and there is none other than the Police. The young men are in their late teens, beginning twenties. The parents and we do not quite see eye to eye since their daughter hit our daughters front teeth out with a rock. Sounds like the wild west, doesn't it. Will the state troopers be able to do something?

Update 3:

ADD

The Troopers told me it is not their jurisdiction and to contact the local Police since it is within city limits.

The dog is just a bit limping, but seems ok otherwise. Yes, it is their Pit Bull/Bulldog mix and it is sitting in a kennel, where they shot through the fence of the kennel. It is just that I feel so helpless

    Call animal control?

do you have an SPCA in the area?

they'll come out and get the dog, then start to build a case against the owners who then could most likely be charged with animal abuse.

Unless you see actual evidence of abuse you should be wary about jumping to conclusions. When you say "pellet gun" I think of a gun shooting small shot that isn't meant to even pierce the skin. I shot at a neighbors dog with such a gun because it would come on to my farm and eat my chickens. After shooting at it a few times it got the picture it quit coming on to my land.

Basically you don't have very many details on the situation. Was this a dog they were trying to train not to chase cars if that had been a problem in the past. It may not be the best choice, but they could have been trying to prevent it from chasing the car.

Just keep a mindful eye on the situation right now. You currently don't have any evidence of abuse. Also keep in mind that dog hunting season is open at this time of year in some states? Was it actually their dog, or a wild one that came on their land? Here in Minnesota for instance, if you see wild dogs running around it is perfectly legal to shoot and kill them. All in all, it's best to get the actual facts about the situation first before jumping to conclusions because there is a whole myriad of things that could be going on.

Call animal control and report the Incident ,Surprises me the police said that as animal control work closely with the police so call animal control .

Edit ..That is not good can you call the police again and speak to some one else .i live in the UK so dont know whether the state troopers would help you .

But well done for making the call .

You can call 911 and animal patrol might come out and take the dog and the boys might go to juvi for a short period of time.

see i you can call the animal cops? also does the dog belong to someone? if you have a little airsoft gun every time they shoot it you can shoot them ;) jk but how funny that would be they would think that it bounced off and hit them. If the dogs dont belong to anyone take them in or take them to a no kill shelter and tell them what happened
