How to control cherry shrimp population in a 10 gallon tank?

The cherry shrimp are harassing my pygmy cories so I want a fish in there to control their population. I don't there to be no cherry shrimp but I want a fish to pick some off every now and then. I want a harmonious balance of 6 or so pygmy cories, a small controlled cherry shrimp population, and (a) predator(s).

You want something that will eat the babies, not the adults. If the fish would go for the adults, it won't stop until it eats them all. I would get a single betta. It will be happy to gorge itself on hatchlings, but should for the most part leave adults alone.

Otherwise either give the extra shrimp away, or set up a little planted shrimp bowl.

Malthus and Darwin pretty much proved that the balance you want to establish in a micro-ecosystem does not even exist in huge ecosystems but instead there is a cycle of boom and bust. If nature can't do this balance thing in an area of thousands of square miles, you are not going to do it in less than two cubic feet of water.

If you want a balance, you have to do it yourself. With an artificial color form such as the cherry shrimp, you really have to keep your hand in the process, picking out the few reddest shrimp and removing all the rest.

Gourami wont help a lot, they stay as a rule on the precise, midsection precise. Any killifish that would consume fry could additionally be possible on your different fish. Loaches might desire to do the interest, yet they could consume the shrimp too. Kuhli loaches could consume a fry or 2 yet once you certainly need some help, get a sturdier loach, no longer clowns, they are too great, yet zebrasa, yoyos, or polka dots might desire to do the interest and be thoroughly non violent to the different fish. purely problem - loaches are very small in shops because of the fact they improve very slowly, it would desire to be awhile till now they have been given great adequate to circulate after the fry. Rainbow fish do greater suitable in faculties, Its complicated to declare if he could be greater under pressure all by myself in a tank or on your tank with the different fish have been he could be under pressure by utilising all the different fish. an you preserve him in a quaranteen tank for awhile?

Not going to happen., Predators don't stop at one now and ten. Any species good at picking them off will quickly wipe them out.

I'd advice you to sell off the excess. A buck a shrimp should be possible
