  • What is a good drum kit for a percussionist?

I already have been playing percussion for seven years. I have no idea how to play drum set however. I want to start so I want to know what would be a good basic kit that has everything, produces a good sound and will last me. Considering it would be a basic kit with not too much going on, I wouldn't want to pay anymore than $600. I want a really good snare because I'll obviously be taking that away and practicing on it a lot. The other basics like toms, hi-hat, susp. cymbal, bass drum w/ pedal are pretty much a given right?

  • Why did my Betta die in more than excellent conditions?

I recently added Pygmy cories to my cherry shrimp ten gallon tank after I did a big order that left my tank empty. It's a heavily planted tank. It has driftwood surrounded by loads of java moss and anubias tied to it. There's a dwarf hairgrass carpet, a little colosseum ornament, a sword, water sprite, and hornwort. After the cories got settled in and were doing great, I added a huge Betta. He swam around, flared at his reflection in the glass, seemed healthy and died a few days later. The pH is at 7.0 in the tank and everything else is 0 as indicated by the cherry shrimp and pygmy cories which are doing great. I think he had swim bladder though.

I recently got a double half-moon Betta from PetSmart and he's white and the prettiest thing ever. He did fine for two days but now he's in the a little ridge in the driftwood not moving much. He's not staying off the floor much. The other guy didn't eat, but this one did a bit but only when it was crushed because he's a tiny one. What do I do to fix my tank before he dies too because it SEEMS to me that he's about to die too and I really don't want that to happen. All my tanks are doing fine and I'm what I would consider a pretty decent fish keeper who knows what he's doing. Is he stressed?

  • How to control cherry shrimp population in a 10 gallon tank?

The cherry shrimp are harassing my pygmy cories so I want a fish in there to control their population. I don't there to be no cherry shrimp but I want a fish to pick some off every now and then. I want a harmonious balance of 6 or so pygmy cories, a small controlled cherry shrimp population, and (a) predator(s).

  • Cherry shrimp are harassing pygmy cories?

I started off with 5 pygmies in my 10 gallon but gradually, three of them died off and it is because of the cherry shrimp numbers. They're quite overbearing; sometimes, they crawl all over the poor pygmies as they like to sit still. It's quite stressful. Recently, I put in a GBR to control the population but he died today.

What can I put in instead to occasionally snack on the cherry shrimp that will actually fit in a ten gallon? I was thinking Betta but I think he would completely destroy everything. It's heavily planted with driftwood and all but I think I would never see a cherry shrimp step foot outside their driftwood cavern if there were a Betta on the loose. Maybe a ADF? Bolivian Ram? School of tetras?

  • Rummynose trying to breed with neon tetra?

I have this one chubby little female neon tetra who has two or three rummynoses underneath her always following her around. I noticed that her bottom fin was torn up. Are they attempting to breed? How do I prevent this? I would be fine with it if her bottom fin wasn't in such bad condition. It's a thirty gallon densely planted tank with driftwood and an adequate stock. All of the fish are healthy but this seems to be a recurring problem.

  • How is this stocking for a 29g tank?

I'm planning on my stocking to be 8 Neon Tetras, 8 Rummy Nose Tetras, 2 Bolivian Rams (both of which are males, I believe), 1 German Blue Ram, 5 Emerald Cories, and 3 African Dwarf Frogs. It's heavily planted with driftwood. I also have 3 Otos in there. Does this sound like an alright stocking? If not, how about other suggestions. The stock right now is that but 3 less rummynoses and no german blue rams. I really like how German Blue Rams look. What are some other interesting ideas?

  • My betta is fat and isnt moving from the bottom of the tank?

My crown tail male betta has been laying in one corner of the tank for prolonged periods of time rarely eating and only swimming when disturbed during the water changes. I have him in a 5.5 gallon tank divided with him and another betta who is fine. His finnage doesn't look so good and that might be from lying on the gravel all the time. What do I do? He rarely eats but is fat. How can he breathe if he doesn't go up for air, being a labyrinth organ dependent fish? Any diagnosis you guys can provide? What do I do. I'm considering moving the other betta to give him the whole tank. There are too silk plants fyi.

  • Experiment: Will a Betta diminish or control cherry shrimp population?

I want to do a little test. I have a relatively calm Betta who has successfully been kept with ghost shrimp in the past. He's sick right now. I want to transfer him into a bigger tank. My Endler just died and I have 4 pygmy cories and a colony of hundreds of cherry shrimp. Will adding the Betta completely destroy the cherry shrimp population or just control it by eating some babies? It's well planted. I have way too many shrimp and a very sick Betta and I feel this will kill two birds with one stone.

I still want cherry shrimp. Is it worth trying or am I risking a lot here?

  • Can I put 5 baby cardinals in a ten gallon?

I have a ten gallon tank with 4 pygmy cories and a colony of cherry shrimp as well as a male Endler. The tank seems pretty barren. I wanted to add some color. The tank is well-established and densely planted. My LFS sells these really tiny cardinals and I wanted to put them in my ten gallon. If not, what are other commonly available schooling fish I can put in there. Head and tail light rasboras, harlequin rasboras, gold clouds, glolight tetras? I know dwarf rasboras, embers and celestial danios are ideal schooling fish but I can't find them and I don't want to pay $40 for shipping.

If not, can I put 2 more pygmies and 4-5 white clouds?

  • Ideas for a tank with an endler, cherry shrimp, and Pygmy cories?

I have one male endler, a colony of cherry shrimp and four Pygmy cories in my densely planted ten gallon tank. What are some interesting ideas of fish I can put in there? Maybe a small schooling fish?

  • Will my cherry shrimp population keep growing with Pygmy Cories and one Endler?

I have a cherry shrimp colony in my ten gallon. I recently rescued an Endler from being sold as a feeder fish at my pet store and he's in there right now. I know Endlers like cherries but one can't really dent the population, right? What if I added pygmy cories. I want to get pygmies because they're really fascinating and cute. Also because my Endler won't eat flaked food and I want something eating that flake food when it falls to the bottom instead of the cherry shrimp because cherries lose their coloring with too much protein in their diet and I'm trying to keep their population growing as I sell them.

How many pygmies can I add without hurting the cherry population too much? If possible, how many Endlers can I add. They'd be male. Don't want Endler fry.

  • Can an Endler's Livebearer live alone?

I rescued an Endler's Livebearer from the pet store from being sold as a feeder fish. He's swimming around really actively in my 10 gallon planted shrimp tank. I've read differing articles on whether Endler's prefer to shoal/school or not. What do you think? Should I get 4 more males to accompany him? He seems to be picking on the cherry shrimp. Would getting more get rid of the aggression and disperse it among the Endler's Livebearers?

  • Question about T5 vs. T8 vs. T5HO?

I was informed that T5s have less output than T8s. Is this true? I researched it and my research indicated otherwise. If they are less efficient, would T5HOs fit into the T5 fixture?

I have an Aqueon Dual Lamp T5 fixture sixteen inches above my substrate surface.

  • Dual T5 fixture for planted 29g tank?

I have purchased a dual T5 fixture for my 29 gallon. Basically, it's not high output (I didn't want to have to inject carbon dioxide) and it's eighteen inches from the substrate. Am I in medium light? They're 18 watts each if that matters. One is a 6700 K lamp and the other is a ColorMax lamp. I previously had one 17 watt T8 bulb. T5s are stronger than T8s right? Or is that only if it's T5 HO?

Any natural fertilizers I can use that won't harm my fish? Don't wanna spend ten bucks on root tabs, I have plain sand. I put in some CO2 Booster now and then.

  • T8 + LED Lighting in a 29g tank?

    -17 watt T8 bulb (24")

    - Hidden LED Lighting System by Marineland (17" 400 lumens)

This is in a 29 gallon tall tank. I have low light plants except for red tiger lotus and dwarf hair grass.

  • Do I need two T5HO bulbs for a 29 gallon tank?

It's a twenty nine gallon tall planted tank. What's the cheapest lighting fixture I can use that will provide medium to high lighting. I have plain sand and CO2 booster that I can potentially use. If it is needed, I will purchase root tabs.

  • Which average velocity formula is right?

(Vi + Vf)/2 or distance over time? Or both? Because in this problem the displacement is not not given, just the initial velocity and and final velocity along with time for the second part of the problem. The first would be a lot easier to use.

  • Strip light that can sit on aquarium hood?

Yesterday I asked about a single bulb I can put on my 30 inch hood but I realized that the entire strip light can be taken off to reveal a glass section. Where can I get a plain strip light (double tube preferably) that ISN'T a ridiculously expensive hood. I just want the lights in like a little encasing basically that can sit flat on the glass. I want T5HOs.

  • Lighting a 29 gallon tall with one bulb?

I have an Aqueon 30 inch hood that fits only one bulb. I do not want to look for another hood. The fixture holds a 24" bulb. Right now there's a 17 watt t8 bulb. I know this is weak. What's the highest output I can get from one 24" bulb. Are there any 24" t5 (v)ho fluorescent bulbs at 6700-10000K with a high wattage?
