Basic desire to survive?

I can understand why god(s) were created and that humans marveled at what they got good or bad. My thought is that the real driving force to belief is a desire to survive. I think we are the only animals with such an evolved brain to know we will die and to ponder if it continues, so when presented with an afterlife, we take the opportunity. However i understand that this desire does not constitute truth. Your thoughts?

Yes, I ubderstand what you are saying and I agree. We like to make up things in our mind to make us feel better and to put ourselves a ease. We love to believe that we are being looked after by something\soneone bigger and better then ourselves who looks after us and will always be there. Society likes us to believe these things because it makes people more predictable if they follow certain rules to grant the reward of eternal life.
