John, Being in a relationship means that you can say things to each other, and this is something he really needs to know.

If you don't tell him, who will? It could be having a negative affect on him at work, etc., and people may be avoiding him.

It could also be a dental or health issue... it needs to be addressed for his own good. Talk to him.

When he comes home give him a kiss and then say, "uff... hon I think you brought lunch home with you... brush your teeth because I plan on giving you the kiss you deserve!" If he doesn't get the hint, then just say that there is something he needs to know, and perhaps only someone who loves him can say.... You will be doing him a favor.

Hi Hammie This rather depends on the reason for the bad breath. If it is just very poor personal hygiene then you need to offer him a breath mint or similar in a pointed sort of way. Alternatively you could demonstrate breathing into your hand and suggest he tries it. Just telling him is going to cause offence however you tell him. However bad breath is caused by a variety of things, including stomach problems. If he has a hiatus hernia or other stomach problems then this can cause this and there is little that can be done. You either tell him, or learn to put up with it -- and this is a case where you need to speak up because really bad breath = bacteria, which could mean he's got gum disease that you could catch. There is a REASON that people are repelled by bad smells.

Tell him that you are worried about his health and would like him to see a dentist or doctor (bad breath isn't always from teeth.) When he asks why, tell him that his breath makes you think there's something wrong.

What a lot of these people say is true - but let me add something. He MIGHT have an ulcer, is not brushing his tongue, or isn't flossing, the first and last of which can have some very serious health implications.

This happened to me, A friend of mine offered me a mint one time, I said nah I don't want one and he said no dude you need one. So I accepted the mint. I have used that strategy on other people and it works but say it with a smile on your face and with a humorous tone in your voice. If they still refuse then ask them what color was the crap they ate for lunch. Some people need to be embarrassed in order to change their attitude.

Just ask him if he wants some of your gum and if he says no just say are you sure because no offense bu you need it honey. I do it all the time to my friends when they are smelling they call me you cheeky buggar then they grab all the gum

There is no polite way of saying it. You just have to inform him that he has bad breath and you would appreciate if he tried to change that.
