How come we only need our brains in order to function before we die?

Christians often compare the relationship between the brain and the soul to the one between hardware and software. At first glance, this analogy seems air-tight; the soul can't execute orders or receive certain sensory input if its brain, or "hardware" is damaged.

But it falls apart pretty quickly. If you destroy a piece of hardware, the software does not suddenly function perfectly again in some metaphysical form.

The opposite is, purportedly, true in regards to the brain and soul. The soul's function becomes more and more inhibited as the brain takes physical damage; but once the brain is completely destroyed, suddenly the soul functions perfectly again; and you can see, hear, talk, smell, taste, and talk to all of your dead relatives.

If this is true, and our souls can function perfectly without any kind of material foundation, then why do we have brains to begin with?

The soul is an eternal energy, the body is a temporary vehicle for the soul

to use in a material world. The soul and body are connected and interact

though the in doctrine glands connected by the nervous system to the brain.

When the body becomes fragile and can no longer support life, the vast soul

can move out or hang around as it desires until the body dies.

Very interesting. You are saying that although the hardware/software analogy is a good picture of the brain/soul, how does the soul exist on its own without the brain?

You are stepping into the spiritual substance which no one can yet fathom. When Christ rose up again, he did have a body, but it was different from his former one. He was able to appear suddenly in the presence of the disciples and yet he could eat and show off his wounds.

Unfortunately, our knowledge hasn't gone far enough to explain the spiritual substance - which by description, may contain, or at least parallel, matter.

Why do we have brains? Well, because we are born with them and they define us as earthy, fallen descendants of Adam who are able to receive grace in Christ. Only afterward can we receive this spiritual body which ??? like I said, may contain or parallel the material.
