I'm looking to buy a gaming PC, which motherboard would you suggest?

The options right now are:

ASUS P8Z77-V (LGA-1155)

ASUS P9X79-LE (LGA-2011)

Asus Maximus-V-Gene (LGA-1155)

Sabertooth X79 (LGA-2011)

ASUS P8Z77-V-Pro (LGA-1155)

Rampage IV Gene (LGA-2011)

An explanation of why would be good too.

Update:

I'm not planning on overclocking.

I'll probably be getting the Intel Core i7 3820 3.60/3.80Ghz for my processor. I'm not looking for this huge variety of features, either.

Which processor are you intending to buy, cause one processor may not fit on a LGA 2011 board...and another may not fit on an LGA 1155 board.

Also, are you looking to overclock? Do you want a motherboard that is rich in features? Or do you just need a board with at least 2 PCIe X16 slots, 6 SATA ports, 4 DIMM slots, onboard sound, all without breaking the bank. ASUS Maximus, Rampage, and Sabertooth varieties are expensive, but still put out the same amount of performance as a lesser board that does the same thing.

Don't get an X79 board, and don't get an i7. That locks you into Sandy Bridge E. A dead-end.

You'd be smarter going with an unlocked Ivy Bridge and a Z77, or if you really don't want to OC, a B75 board. Or even a Z68.

Why? Because then you'd not be plowing money into something that offers little actual gaming benefit.

  • The ASUS P8Z77-V is what am am going to go with for my build, you shoose this one.
