Australian shepherd puppy pen size?
Hi,
I'm going to adopt an australian shepherd puppy. She is 4-5 pounds right now, 8 weeks old, and will be an estimated 26 pounds when she gets older. As of right now, I am kind of unsure of buying a pen for her right now, I don't know what size will be good for her. In my shopping cart i have a 24 by 30 inches pen, and a 30 by 19 by 21 inch crate. Will the crate be able to fit in the pen? Is it big enough for a very active Australian shepherd puppy?
Plus, any exercise tips would be great! I can't really start walking her out because she hasn't got all her shots yet and there are a lot of neighborhood dogs, so what can I do?
ALSO, the adoption form is asking for my vet info, however, all my before pets were fish and hamsters so I never really needed a vet, can I just call in and request for an appt. with a vet, then put the vet's contact into for the adoption form, and if I get accepted/declined, whichever, I can cancel the appt.?

Exercise pen isn't big enough for the size crate you want to buy. Get a crate with a divider so the crate can grow with the pup. You should get a Springer size crate because you can't be sure what size the Aussie will end up. That would be a Large.....36 l x 25w x 24h ..........to be safe.
The Pen size won't give the pup enough space when out of the crate to do much movement. Get at least a 36 inch pen and a grown Aussies' jumping ability would clear 24 inches easily. I would buy the largest available.....it's what I use for my Shelties.
