  • My mom is going insane?

I just feel like she is just going nuts. She blows up over the littlest stuff, and it's been happening like that for the past few months. She's never happy for a long period of time! It's not menopause, I know that for sure. She is being impossible and absolutely REFUSES to go on vacation with us because she complains that it is "too hot" down there! She yells at me and my sister multiple times a day. I swear, she screams bloody murder. Even the neighbors are getting worried, just like my sister opened the door and it was a little too loud and it startled her, she yelled so loud and spanked my sister. Does anyone know what I can do? Should she see a psychiatrist?

  • My mother calls me a b*tch?

I had some conditioner still left in my hair, then she just went BALLISTIC and started calling me b*tch everywhere and just because I didn't put the laptop leaning against an object she slapped me. Yesterday she cussed and called me a b*tch because she was looking for a knife and apparently it was near the "chopsticks" but there were multiple chopsticks left around. What should I do?

  • Pet insurance for a puppy: Yes or No?

Is pet insurance really worth it?

Are there any pet insurances that have reasonable prices? Everything seems to just add up to $35. I read in Consumer Reports that unless your dog has a serious accident, you are paying more for the insurance than what the insurance is paying back to you. I know at one point, an accident will happen that will go over $1000, and I want the pet insurance to fall back on when it gets too pricey, but I will be spending hundreds of dollars each year until my pup finally gets that accident.

  • How to convince mother to get a puppy?

Now, I'm not selfish or anything, and this is not in the "spur of the moment". I've wanted a puppy/dog for quite a while, and I have an extreme passion for animals, especially dogs. I spend at least two hours per day doing research on them. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if you are going to say "Move out first" then DO. NOT. POST. If you are going to say that I will not take care of the puppy, DO. NOT. POST.

I have been doing research for 6 months. My mother has said no several times, but I don't want to pester her. I want to give her lots of information to show that I am responsible, and that I know what I'm doing and how to take care of the puppy when we have it. I have saved up money.

    So far I have:

Have items for the puppy in my shopping cart on Amazon, with total.

    Produced a Powerpoint.

Written a Microsoft Word describing how I'm going to take care of the puppy.

I have a persuasive essay that I personally did with my tutor (took me 3 weeks but it was worth it).

Another Microsoft Word describing solutions to the problems that she has.

Been extra responsible around the house.

I'm thinking about making a binder with all my puppy information inside of it. Good idea?

Is there any other ways that I can do? I'm just going to present this to her when she is in a good mood! If she says no then I'll leave it alone for a few weeks.

Again, if you have anything bad to say, don't say it at all.

  • Do those who have previously owned dogs or own dogs have a greater acceptance rate than first-time-dog owners?

In other words, what I mean is,

do animal shelters look more favorably on those who have previously owned dogs (in the adult life)/currently own dogs, vs. first-time dog owners?

Is there are greater acceptance rate between the two, or it doesn't matter?

  • Can a 3 1/2 month old puppy stay at home for 2 1/2 hours max per day?

The puppy will either be put in a exercise pen or a crate, depending on the amount of time. She will be given several Kongs, and many toys. She will be exercised and given the chance to go potty before hand.

    Before haters/trollers start saying:

    "You're so irresponsible."

    "You're so selfish, and bratty."

"You have to take ur dog out on walks."

"Ur dog will c--- all over the house."

"dogs cannot stay in a exercise pen for 6+ hours."

I am only using the exercise pen for the time being, until the puppy gets housebroken. The exercise pen is literally like a small room. All dogs have their own "room". She will get carefully supervised to allow to other rooms in the house until she is 1-2 years old, then she will be trusted completely to go around the house. Cesar Millan recommends this.

    Thank you!

  • How can I convince my mother to get a dog?

***If you're just going to post, "Move out first," then DO NOT POST.***

My sister and I have been wanting a puppy for seven years. My mother has been saying no recently, and here are her reasons why NOT to get a dog.

    1) She's scared about the doggy doo doo and doggy wee all over the ground.

    2) Smelliness. A lot of her friends have dogs, my mom has a sensitive nose, and she says the houses are stinky (and they are). We visit animal shelters often and sometimes the smell is unbearable .... sometimes they smell like a fish market ...

Now, I know that dogs smell, but I know that they aren't supposed to be all down right STIN-KY! Anyway to reduce this?

    3) We are looking at a 13-14 week old puppy, how long can that old puppy stay alone?

I am organizing all my information to present to her tonight, so this would all really help tons :)

  • What degree weather can a puppy stay in?

I'm having my puppy stay downstairs (upstairs is a LOT colder, trust me). But sometimes it gets down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit and heating is reaaaaaaalllly expensive. I will put puppy in mayb a bathroom, and put a space heater in it and warm it up for 30 minutes BEFORE putting puppy in it. Have him wear clothes. Put crate up off of the ground to avoid drafts. Is it ok? Or should i get a microwaveable heating pad too?

    Thx. Kailee

  • Questions about keeping puppy warm, and not smelly.?

    Please answer ALL my questions.

    1. I want to keep my new puppy warm but it is colder upstairs then it is downstairs. And it is like 20-30 degree Fahrenheit coldness weather. BUT I have 3 pajamas in my shopping cart, puppy blanket, puppy bed, will keep the bed & crate up from the floor to prevent drafts, and I have a snuggle safe microwave heatpad in my shopping cart. Is this enough? I want to make sure my puppy is OK. And safe.

    2. My mom has a sensitive nose (and no she is not allergic). She will get me a puppy if I will fix this problem, and I have to do this. But, my mom is kind of scared of stinking up the entire downstairs, and I can't open the window (hello, 20 degree weather xD) to air it out. And I can't give the puppy a bath all the time.

I've heard of using baby powder, or fabric softener sheet, or doggy wipes and also to use a better diet, I have Canidae in my shopping cart right now. Will these all help and is it safe to use all three of these methods? PLEASE HELP!!

    3. when I take my puppy out on a walk I want to wash his paws, is Pet Plunger a good one? And no, I am NOT A CLEAN FREAK. I think it's exceedingly dirty to wear shoes in the house (hello, you step in mud and you just BRUSH it off and walk in the house and tromp everywhere?).

Please answer my questions! Thanks a lot!

  • Australian shepherd exercise level vs. Golden/Labrador Retriever exercise level?

I'm planning on getting an Aussie puppy and I might be able to exercise it for an hour each day.

My neighbors have a Golden/Labrador Retriever and I know that those are very active, are they as active as Aussies? Because my neighbor just walks her dogs 3x a day down the block and back .... just wanted to ask.

    Thx.

  • Australian shepherd puppy pen size?

    Hi,

I'm going to adopt an australian shepherd puppy. She is 4-5 pounds right now, 8 weeks old, and will be an estimated 26 pounds when she gets older. As of right now, I am kind of unsure of buying a pen for her right now, I don't know what size will be good for her. In my shopping cart i have a 24 by 30 inches pen, and a 30 by 19 by 21 inch crate. Will the crate be able to fit in the pen? Is it big enough for a very active Australian shepherd puppy?

Plus, any exercise tips would be great! I can't really start walking her out because she hasn't got all her shots yet and there are a lot of neighborhood dogs, so what can I do?

ALSO, the adoption form is asking for my vet info, however, all my before pets were fish and hamsters so I never really needed a vet, can I just call in and request for an appt. with a vet, then put the vet's contact into for the adoption form, and if I get accepted/declined, whichever, I can cancel the appt.?

  • Can a 8-9 week old puppy stay at home for 2 1/2 hours maximum per day?

I will leave many, many toys and will leave him in a playpen with the crate, the crate door will be open. I will give him a walk before and after.

I was maybe going to get a dachshund/beagle mix. What are this breed like. Or a cairn terrier/chihuahua or a cairn terrier/rat terrier mix (the shelter doesn't know if its a mix of cairn terrier and either chihuahua or rat terrier). 2 of the siblings are yellow wirehair, two of the other siblings are black and they have smooth hair. Any idea?

  • How much does a dog w/ a broken leg's vet bills cost?

I want to adopt a dog in the local shelter. He has a broken leg though and he should get it taken off in a week and 1 day if I adopt him TODAY. The shelter tells me if I adopt him, then I will be in full responsibility for vet care, so further vet care and cast removal will be on me.

How much will it be, considering that he has 1 WEEK AND 1 DAY left for recovery, including cast removal??? An estimate is OK.
