Trying to uninstall Norton Antivirus from my computer? Not working!?
So after realizing Norton Antivirus was a piece of crap, I wanted to uninstall it from my computer. Went to Add/Remove Programs, clicked uninstall, and nothing was popping up? Why is that? My computer has been running really slowly lately and Norton hasn't been working properly, so I wanted to install another antivirus. Can't get rid of Norton though - even from Add/Remove Programs. Is there another way I can remove it?

I don't think it's a problem with the software. The software should be easily removable with the add or remove programs tool. It could be a slow hard drive or processing speed. If your computer is more than 5 years old then it may be a problem with your hard drive and you should have it diagnosed by a professional. If your computer is newer than 5 years, then run the DX Diagnostic tool (type 'dxdiag' after you go to 'run' in the start menu). Check your hardware specs. It may be because you have a shortage of RAM (256MB RAM is a problem if you're running XP, less than 1GB RAM is a problem if you are running vista).

I am a professional developer with Microsoft, and have about 10 years of experience in the field of Computer Engineering. Most problems with PC's are the result of malicious software that infected a Computer. Examples of this are things such as malware, viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, root kits, and worms. In other cases, they are the result of stability issues due to crashes, freezes, or Hardware Issues. Some examples of hardware issues could be a dirty cooling fan causing the computer to overheat, or low memory due to lack of RAM, which could cause the PC to run slowly. You may think it could be a virus, or malware, or registry issues, but it could be something else entirely. As a computer layman, one may find it hard to really ascertain what exactly is causing the problems, without having a professional do an in depth analysis of your PC.
As professional computer repairs can be quite costly, I would recommend to you a Software that many of us in the tech department here at Microsoft use personally and professionally to diagnose and repair computer problems very quickly. It is a software called Reimage, from https://tr.im/ReimageRepair .. In my personal experience, and in the experience of many of my associates, this is probably the best software ever created for those experiencing computer troubles. This is likely to remedy just about ANY problem your computer could possibly be having, and have it running like new. Reimage has won several awards, and been featured in publications such as PC Mag.

I have an answer for you but your probably not going to like it. Is the Norton your tying to uninstall a "trial" version. If so your out of luck at uninstalling any of it, UNLESS your willing to do the following exactly like I say Step 1A "reformat the Hard drive that the Norton product is on, Step 1B "reinstall Your Operating system clean. Step 1C "reinstall everything back onto that hard drive except the Norton "software"
Reason I know this is Had to do that fer thing with my desktop to unhighjack it from McAfee "Antivirus" program. I installed a trial version and went into hospital before I could uninstall the "trial version" result was a bunch of crap with the antivirus bit labeling good programs as bad and viruses and blocking all attempts to remove the offending piece of crap software by " removing its "removal" feature' in the uninstall programs section of control panel. The option to remove it after the "trial period expires " dosent eve show up when you try to remove it
Told you you wouldn't like the answer I gave you :((

Hi,
Sometimes anti viruses like AVG, Norton try to forcibly live on the host system. They do not uninstall themselves through control panel and that can be due to the presence of trial versions of this antivirus.
May be the below link may help you out.
