What longboard should I buy?
So my friend got an original longboard apex 40 diamond drop for Christmas, and I kind of want one too. I have been skating for 3 years now and can't seem to ever land a kickflip, so why not try longboarding. I originally told my friend about the apex 40 diamond drop, but its just way to expensive for a complete. I was thinking of buying the freeride 41 because its cheaper. I want to bomb hills, go fast, and do slides. I am 5' 8" and 130 lb. I like the original longboards, but dont want to spend soo much money. Maybe around $200 for the whole complete board. I might also receive a $30 gift card to zumiez or CCS, how are the longboards there? What's so special about the diamond drop compared to others. So please tell me what longboard will be good for me. Please include the wheels, trucks, bearings, etc. that will go good with the longboard. A complete longboard would be perfect. THANKS!

I had a freeride 41 it was pretty good but it will only last you about a year. It is made of maple ao it will warp, crack and delaminate if you curb it. I had a year old comet fsm that is a maple board and looks a lot like a freeride 41 and It snapped on me just last week. I recomend a rayne rival. It is made of bamboo and fiberglass. It performs better or at least as good as an apex 40 diamond drop. It will be durable and will last you a really good long time. It is light weight too. It may not be cheap but it is definatley one of the best boards on the market. You can chooses to get a maple board that will last a year or you can choose to get a rayne rival that you will love that will last you a long time. And fot trucks I strongly recommend caliber 50°s 50$, bearings bones reds 15-20$, and wheels abec11 flashbacks 81a 30$ (cheap and really really good). If you just cannot buy the rayne rival at all than Get a freeride (dropped) and it should be okay it just won't last as long. Have fun! Longboarding is a hreat sport :)

I have an Original freeride 41, and I don't use it much, because I have a Landyatchz 9two5. You should check it out! Both are amazing though, so it's just whatever you want. No one can pick a longboard for you. Also, Youre not going to get a top of the line board plus awesome wheels, bearings, and trucks for $200... Have fun!!!

Zumiez and Original are both into the "Bro, Shaka" kinda thing. Both sell overpriced pieces of firewood, more as accessories than actual boards. Not to mention an Original team rider took me out at Maryhill, so I have a grudge against them.
Anyways, Check out http://krackedskulls.com/ and use the code BOSS for a discount. They have really great beginner boards.
As far as trucks go: randal, caliber, gunmetal, gullwing (Charger II's only), and paris are all awesome, and pretty close to the same.
wheels: mostly rider preference, since you are getting into sliding and downhill, I'd try 70mm 78a Sector9 Race Formulas, my favorite all around wheel.
edit: oh, bearings honestly don't matter, pick something under $15 and you're set. Patrick Switzer won maryhill on $13 bearings, don't buy anything too expensive. Zealous, magic, mini logo, and reds are the ones I typically ride.

Personally, I'm really into Bustin boards so I'd consider getting one if I were you. I have a Maestro Mini I got for $220, and I absolutely love it. It is a little pricey, but it's completely worth it. Paris 180 trucks are great, and if I were you I'd get Rush All Weather Ceramic bearings. They're $30, and worth every penny. Also, I have Orangatang 4President wheels, but they're made to have a lot of grip and therefore they aren't that good if you want to slide.
