Smaller barbell in a bigger navel piercing?

I got a really nice barbell as a Christmas gift but it's a 16 guage and my bellybutton hole is a size 14 guag, is it ok to wear the bar even though my hole is bigger? like, it won't make my piercing reject or anything will it? If anyone who is or was a professional piercer could answer this for me that would be great :)

    16g is too small for a navel piercing and can cause rejection and/or migration.
