What age is appropriate for a Nook Color?

My ex husband went out and bought my 9 year old a Nook Color because I had told him no he was not responsible enough for it. Is it appropriate for a 9 year old who doesn't take care of his things to get one of these and to go behind my back to his father?

Update:

My issue with it is, it's not just an e-book reader and my son will never see it again. I bought him a PSP and my ex took it and never gave it back to him. He does this all the time. He goes out and throws money at our 9 year old son and 4 year old daughter. I can't do that because I have to support him and he doesn't have to even pay support for them.

Relax, its just an e-book reader. Its not as if its a real computer or anything.

EDIT: Ah, so your problem is not that your kid isn't responsible enough. Its that your ex isn't responsible enough. I get ya.

No, it is not appropriate. Age doesn't matter as much as responsibility level and it does not sound like you think your son is ready. Did your ex know you didn't want him to have a Nook Color? Or did your son trick him?

Your ex really should give you the PSP. You spent your money on it. It sounds like your son spends more time in your home. So his dad really doesn't have much right to keep it.

Make sure your ex knows if your son is trying to play y'all against each other. Other than that, I don't see much good coming out of confronting him if he already knew better. My ex and my mom wanted to get my daughter an ipad. But my 10 yr old daughter ended up buying herself a Nexus 7 before they could do it. Because she set a goal and saved money to reach it for several months - I let her have her Nexus 7. And I paid for a warranty in case it gets broken. But I still have to watch pretty close to make sure she doesn't spend all day playing Angry Birds and watching movies.
