My PS3 Controller won't connect to the system?

My wife got me a new Sony DS3 controller for the Playstation 3. After letting it charge for about 2 hours, I attempted to play some Madden. The controller won't stay connected to the system after unplugging the USB cord, and during gameplay, about every 5 seconds it will say the controller is unplugged even though the USB is firmly still plugged in. What can I do to fix this issue? Thank you!

my Duelshock 3 (basic PS3 controller i got with it) does that sometimes. it works fine, i plug it in to charge, and it wont connect unless i plug it back in. im not sure why but after leaving it alone for a while on the cord it works or restarting the system might work. i just assume the poor lonely controller just wants to be with its fellow technology ps3 some more :)

Hmmm. Maybe theirs something wrong with your cord? Although it probably works fine with your other controller huh... Yeah it must just be a broken controller.... Just go to store and exchange it for a new 1...
