dont understand how charger works for golf cart?
ive just recently acquired a 1994.1/2 ezgo golf cart
with a charger. the charger is an ezgo total charge lll
36 volt. can i leave the charger connected to the batteries
all winter and when the charge in the batteries drop to
a low voltage the charger will come back on until the batteries
reach full charge and then shut off again.if i remember
correctly when i first pluged it in it came on and showed
it was chargeing at 20 amp and then it dropped to
5 amps and shut off and stayed at 5 amp. so does
it stay at 5 amp and when the batteries drop it comes
back on and full charges again. im stumped please help

Yes the charger should keep the battery on trickle charge once the batteries have come up to full charge. I have a Club Car cart and if the cart is not actually being used it's plugged into the charger. That said if I'm going out of town for an extended periods I unplug the charger from the wall and cart and disconnect the batteries in the cart.

If it shut off it wasn't putting out 5 amps. And despite what all the armchair experts tell you, leaving a trickle charge going is a terrible thing to do to a battery. The best thing to do would be to disconnect the batteries for the winter. Just slapping the charger on for a few hours every two months is all they need.
