Why are girls naming their babies such stupid names these days?

It seems like the more "different" or stupid sounding a name is the more they like it. You want to be different? I mean REALLY different?? try naming your kid something they won't hate you for. I don't know why I care so much, it's their kid but when they ask me about a name and I say I don't like it then they get all angry. What happened to "normal" names?

Update:

my point exactly. I hate my name. But I didn't really choose it now did I?

Just because you give your child a 'normal' name, doesn't mean they are going to like it.

My name is Brianna, which is pretty 'normal' and I hate it.

It's way too popular, I get called bri-anna and bri-ana and it gets annoying, and I've just never liked the sound of it.

My parents' other choice was shay-la (not sure how they wanted to spell it) and I think I would've liked that much better even though it's 'different'

No matter what you name your child, there is always a chance of them hating it, whether it's 'normal' or 'different'

If a person gets angry at you for /politely/ giving your opinion on a name they like, don't answer their questions anymore. And if it wasn't so polite (which I see a lot on here) then I don't blame them for getting angry.

Everybody has a different opinion on names and if we didn't, everybody would have the same names which would be boring.

You like what names you like, and other people will like what names they like. That's it.

I totally hear that. I hate that about parents trying to make their kids names all unique and special by having something that isn't really a name! Just choose one that's less common, like Stella or something you don't hear a lot. That's the perfect name. One that's unique but is actually a name! My name is Sarah and it's really common but I guess better to have a name that's common and is actually a name than one that's not.

    I hate my name too.

And for the record, I'm in French class with a girl named Serena. It's not that weird.

I totally agree with you about the weird names. No one can pronounce them, much less spell them. I pity the poor teachers these kids have when they start school. And also, no one will know if they are a girl or boy when they see it written.

Serena is not a bad name at all. Don't hate your name. Easy to spell, easy to pronounce, and it's feminine!

    Define normal.

I can't stand misspelled names or ghetto names or trashy-trendy names but beyond that I'm a lover of all established names no matter how exotic, so long as they have a history of usage and an etymology other than "Modern American".

I agree with you. It's fun to read the long list of names people come up with in this section. It's like really??!

Or I hate how they change the spellings of some things even though it's the exact same name. Like I know someone who changed Elizabeth ot Elisabeth. Looks weird, and everyone will misspell it. Or Katherine and they spell it Katharine. I mean to each his own but stil.

Is Serena your real name? That is not really a "normal" name.

EDIT: Have you asked your mom why she decided to name you that? This is really a matter of personal opinion. What you think is stupid may be beautiful to someone else.
