Russia is trying to ban adoption of Russian children to US Parents, thoughts?
Do you support international adoption? Do you think Americans should adopt American babies first, or does it not matter?

I am going to answer this seriously as a person who has looked into adoption both in the US and internationally.
1st the adoption ban in Russia has been talked about for sometime. There has been several "freezes on US adoptions over the last 4 years. It is not all bout "throwing a fit as a retaliation over sanctions". There has been freezes, bills, and everything else to ban US adopting in Russia for a long time. I must say I am not surprised considering the fate that has befallen several Russian children here in the US. A 7 year old stuck on a plane to Moscow with a note from the adopted mother saying she did not want him. Another found by police living in a shed inn his adoptive parents back yard, an infant found dead in a car after being "forgotten about" in his car seat by his adoptive parents all day.
2nd the idea of adopting an "American baby" is pretty far fetched. Older children yes but babies no not if you want to actually adopt. You don't understand many people don't start out going the international route they only do so after years of heartbreak with domestic adoptions. Waiting months as one of two choices of the mother to not be the ones picked. Waiting years, being told for months you are the pick only at the last minute to have the mother change her mind. I know someone who was at the hospital, named the child for the birth certificate, got all the "new parent lessons", took the baby home from the hospital and 5 days later they were due to sign the papers because that was the birth mother's "waiting period" and the walked in only to be told the birth mother had changed her mind and they took the baby out of their arms and walked away.
So I do support international adoption for many understandable reasons for both the parents and the children. I also support US adoption because many older children need homes but it takes special people to deal with the issues older adoptees have from the lives they have had to live.
It is sad but I also understand Russia's point of view.

I support adoption all over. I think adoption is wonderful; there are too many children who deserve homes, but do not have them. I feel it is unfortunate that Russia is trying to ban Americans from adopting Russian children.

I do support international adoption and believe that couples should adopt where the need is greater. Some in the US have a problem with say, a white couple adopting an ethnic child or, fostering them, which is a sad reflection on what is deemed important by some. Ethnicity isn't important, but the at risk child is.
Perhaps countries like Russia feel that "their" babies should not be adopted by a once sworn enemy - politically speaking of course.
Perhaps Angelina Jolie could engage on the issue. <sarcasm>

If Russians would adopt these kids there would be no issue. Since Russians do not adopt in any meaningful way, there are about 700 000 kids rotting away in Russian orphanages.
These institutions are feeders to the Russian prison system since these poor victims are shoved out into the world at 18 with no resources or support.
It's a sad and vicious cycle and Putin and his criminal gangs are making it worse for innocent orphans.
Adopt your own kids Russians! Or get out of the way of those who will.

Too many American women and girls just rely on abortions so there aren't too many American newborns to adopt. I hate that. I also know there are too many children (not infants) in our country that need parents but people are hesitant to adopt an older child. After that woman struggled with her Russian born adopted son and just put him on a plane, alone, back to Russia, I don't blame Russians for not wanting that to happen again. What it boils down to is that it is always the kids that suffer.

Being Russian myself, I don't understand why Russia is putting a ban on it. I mean, what harm does it do? I can only find benefits in adopting children from other countries. After all, America has the highest adoption rates right?

I think Americans should adopt American babies anyway. The Churches just make a LOT of money off begging for the children of other nations and convincing thier congregations to adopt there. There's no money for churches in adoption of US babies. Religion sucks!!!

Beyond "trying". They voted Unanimously to ban U.S. Adoptions.
Im glad. Since the initial ban, the number of adoptable kids in Russia DECREASED. Meaning, Russians are adopting them instead. Remove the profit from the table and it's surprizing how the "problem" of "poor kids in orphanages" tend to resolve itself.

You might want to put a little flesh to the story, as the Russians are actually sulking.
As you Americans have created a law calling for sanctions against Russians , so it's a reaction to that.
