Here a fish hangs in the net like a poor man's right in the law.

  • Do you hate the phrase "boots on the ground"?

I WISH people (esp politcians and the news media) would STOP referring to our Military ground forces as simply "boots on the ground"!

We are talking about the lives and brave efforts of American soldiers -- They mean much more than footware!

Am I wrong?? Shouldnt we STOP using this demeaning phrase and call them what they are -- American Soldiers!! They deserve AT LEAST that level of respect! Right??

  • If destroying ISIS cost yet another trillion USD?

Would the war hawks still be for attacking this group if the cost were $1 trillion USD??

Does anyone else find it odd that the GOP leaders (McCain especially) are quick to call for air strikes and military action - regardless of cost? But spend a few billion extending unemployment to their OWN citizens is seen as "un-affordable" ??

  • Can a cop arrest me?

If I accuse a police officer of wrong-doing, can that same police officer arrest me for accusing him? (i.e. claiming I am making a false allegation against a police officer)

I just saw this YT video and it's really bothering me. This woman lost her child to CPS for 6 months because of it. I'm just wondering if there is an actually law that allows police to arrest their own accuser?

  • Paying cash in international adoptions?

A friend of friend is finalizing a child adoption from China and part of the process is of course to travel to china and pay the adoption "providers" an $8k fee -- In cash! This to me raises ALL kinds of red-flags. Is it typical for international adoptions to be Cash based transactions???

  • Is emigration OUT of the U.S. very difficult?

I'm thinking of calling it quits with America. I'm not kidding. I don't like the direction this county is heading, and I see it getting worse before it gets any better. I've really lost all hope.

So, in all seriousness, How hard is to Emigrate to Europe, or Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. What's typically required?

  • Hard drive activity high when im not using the laptop?

I've been noticing the little light on my laptop is constantly flickering when the laptop is NOT in use (no running apps), and the screen saver is on. The moment I touch a key - the flickering stops.

I've run SEVERAL virus and malware scans just to be sure - all clean. Is there anyway to tell what process starts running when the laptop is idle?

  • Do home upgrades increase the value or just the sellability?

Do homes upgrades effect the final selling price if they aren't increasing total square footage. Ive heard that homes are generally priced on total sq. ft and comparison homes in the area. If this is the case, it would seem to me that upgrades only make it easier to sell the home for the same price. What's your opinion?

  • Help me understand the AR-15?

I'm really confused about this (and other weapons like it). I've read a number of posts about the AR15 with lots of heated arguments about what it ISN'T. What I'd like to know - What IS it?? ( i know it's a rifle..but what's it for?)

    - What is it's designed purpose and use?

    - Why does the manufacture call it a "tactical rifle"? What makes a rifle "tactical" and how is this reference different from "assault".

    - There are a number of rifles on Gun maker websites that are "for police / military use only". How does these differ from ones that are available to the general public?

    - One post I read said that to be an "assault" rifle, it needs to be capable of fully-automatic operation. If this is the case - arent automatic weapons ALREADY banned? (completely negating the argument about "banning assault rifles".) I mean, you can't ban something that is already banned...right?

PLEASE don't flame me or insult me just because I don't know about guns. I already know I don't, which is why I'm asking this question. Some people on here react as if not knowing about certain weapons is somehow un-American.

  • Should budget cuts include research?

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded $1.5 million to study biological and social factors for why “three-quarters” of lesbians are obese and why gay males are not, calling it an issue of “high public-health significance."

Did Sequester affect research grants? I thought it was cross-the-board. How does this get approved?

  • Ryan budget plan isnt new?

Ryan "unveiled" basically an edited version of the Romney/Ryan budget plan even thought the republicans told the press last week that Ryan will create a "new" budget plan that is a "compromise", and work with democrats towards a real budget.

He didn't. He basically wasted an entire week and delivered a complete no-starter. Will the GOP EVER learn how to compromise and STOP wasting time on punditry?

  • North Korea - Are we provoking them more than they are provoking us?

What is more provoking to North Korea? Which would cause more to destabilize the delicate politics going on?

-- The current war games going on between the South and the U.S?

-- The fact that the world isn't taking the Norths threats or war and rhetoric seriously?

We already know they arn't happy about sanctions. (they deserve more) Normally i would say ignore the kid having a temper-tantrum. But this kid is a large army and missiles. I'm wondering if ignoring them or calling their bluff will make matters even worse?

  • Why did old records have 3 speeds?

When i read about old vinyl records, I see 3-speeds are common. 78, 45, and 33 1/3. What purpose did the different speeds (rpm) have?

    And why 33 1/3 vs a whole number like 30, or 32?

Did the speed on the outside of the record change as the needle moved to the inside...since the revolutions become shorter?

  • Sequester: Is it more media driven or political hype?

Not sure where I stand on the hype. The media seems to care more about sequester than Congress. Im wondering if in 3 weeks, will the media be apologetic if we look up and the sky remains where it has always been? I remember Jan 1 too...and the "looming" fiscal cliff that was supposed devastate the economy. Strangely - Q1 appears to be awful strong, despite all the warnings gloom and doom and great depressions.

Personally i'm fine with the Sequester. If its clear that some of the cuts need to be reversed, they will do it by Monday I have no doubt. But i do think the Republicans painted themselves into a corner with this one. The dems will ask for tax increases to re-fund essential programs - to which the republicans can either reject and look absolutely uncaring to constituents, or - agree "just this last time" with an open threat to others.

  • Is it possible to block specific people from messaging me?

Up until a moment ago, I allowed the option for people to contact me via Y!A email. I have turned this off because i'm tired of a particular moron and his stupid 9/11 conspiracies. I've asked him politely to stop messaging me but he keeps writing to annoy me.

I like the option of people being able to contact me - except for this one idiot. If I block him - will that alone be enough to prevent him from contacting me if I turn my email back on? Or will he be forever allowed since all he has to do it click "reply" to the previous messages.

  • How is Senate Bill 1813 (Vehicle tracking devices) constitutional?

Are you ready for Washington to monitor your every move?

This is real - and scary!

Congress wants to put tracking devices in the car of every American, and that’s not even the scariest provision in a new bill being passed around Washington.

The US Senate has already signed off on a new legislation that, if cleared by the rest of Congress, will see to it that the government gets its eyes and ears inside every automobile in the country. Senate Bill 1813 calls for the installation of mandatory recorders and communication devices in Americans’ cars that could connect the whereabouts and actions of the country’s drivers with whomever the government wants to grant access to.

It doesn’t stop there, though — another provision in the proposed bill will give the government the power to revoke passports from Americans behind on their taxes, essentially making it impossible for the indebted to escape the country.
