Has anyone tried 2nd draft by Writer's Digest? What do think of this service?

I'm interested in getting professional insights to help make a book of short stories ready for publishing. Thanks for your thoughts on this topic.

Bonacker - Don't give up on your collection of short stories Obviously a previous answerer hasn't browsed through the bookstores lately or read well-informed reviews. There's been a resurgence in short story collections not only by new and emerging writers, but reprints by well-known authors. I attended a national writer's conference not too long ago, and there were several agents from reputable agencies actively seeking short stories. They need to have a cohesive story line, but it's still a viable form, Admittedly, finding a publishing company may be more difficult. However, at this same conference, agents and representatives of the publishing business were saying that the publishing houses are dying out faster than ever before and self-publishing doesn't carry the stigma it once did. In fact, some agents are now looking at these e-books and if they read something they like, they may contact the author directly. As for Writer's Digest, it's highly reputable and you should look into it further. Go to Resolved Questions and type in Writer's Digest 2nd Draft and you'll find a response. Do your homework before committing your money, however,

It is virtually impossible to get a book of short stories publishers. Go to some publisher's web sites, and you will see that they all say "we do not accept books of short stories".

Plus, you get that this is going to cost you at least $150, right?

You will be much better sending individual stories to publishers you find on Duotrope.com or on Raylan. Hiring a cheap editor is not the solution.
