Uninstalling Steam does things it shouldn't?

I bought a 2nd hard drive today to just for my games. I backed up the files of all my STeam games and was going to uninstall Steam then install it on the new hdd. When I unistalled it it also got rid of other stuff on my desktop. Ventrilo, Mumble, Diablo 3, etc. Things that had nothing to do with Steam. I restored the original hdd so it's all back now but I installed Steam onto the new hdd before I did this.

Why did it do that?

Update:

ventrilo and mumble is software used to chat with ppl online (like skype) and diablo 3 isnt available on steam. It was just game related stuff though.

Were any of the stuff on your desktop downloaded from steam? Because if so that probably is the problem
