Can I use regular lettuce instead of escarole in soup?

I'm no chef, but I thought it would be nice to make a lentil soup for my mom. I had no carrots, so I found another recipe, but this one calls for a head of escarole. I have never used it in my life, but it looks like lettuce. I don't have it either, but I have iceburg lettuce. Should I use the iceburg or no lettuce at all?

I would just omit it, could just add onions and garlic, and if you have it, some carrots and celery, if not, not biggie. Some water and then let it make a broth.

Ew. Wilted, cooked iceberg lettuce. I'll have canned soup instead.

I've never used escarole or carrots in lentils. It will be fine.

I really don't like iceburg in anything! It and celery are the least nutritive veggies there are but do have a lot of fiber going for them.

I would leave the lettuce out. If you have cabbage it will do in place of the escarole!

Shred the iceberg lettuce finely and sprinkle over the soup. It will wilt nicely in the time it takes to get to the table.

I wouldn't, it will not hold up to the heat and will wilt,

If you want lettuce for your soup the best thing to do

Is shred it and serve it on the side. : )

Iceberg is mostly water, so it'll just fall apart---gross. If you don't have any hearty greens like kale or spinach, then just omit the greens. It'll still taste fine without it. :)
