2001 dodge dakota engine light stays on?
2WD/A/C/auto no other extras. 182K+ miles. Runs like a champ. Engine light would come on maybe twice a year, but far more frequently of late, to the point now that I just had it read (Misfire on #3 cylinder) & the light came back on w/ the next start. The #3 misfire ALWAYS reads when tested. NO blinking yet. My fear is that if the light stays on it won't be alerting me of any other problems, & I don't want to cover up the light w/ tape. The latest test (yesterday) was done by a certified mechanic. There is NO issue in performance.

Buy an obd 2 reader tool. Pretty cheap. About 75 bucks or much cheaper on eBay. Read codes and reset light whenever you want
Source(s): I have a high mileage car that throws a couple codes per year for no apparent reason. I read. Reset. And go on my way - ?Lv 45 years ago
forget approximately concerning the mileage it,s a honest wager that your oil is burning off , it truly is accessible to try this without smells or smoke, because of fact the engine is at it,s early point of failure probable that the piston ring,s are gummed up
