How has prayer helped you to be closer to God?

PRAYER

It is not possible to maintain spiritual balance without prayer. It keeps a person reminded of their dependence upon God. It is one of the ways we can express our heartfelt gratitude for what God has done and will yet do. It is the way we can talk with him, unloading our troubles and worries upon the heavenly Father. “Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God, and the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.”—Phil. 4:6, 7. Sincere prayer brings a person near to God, just as it is written: “Jehovah is near to all those calling upon him, to all those who call upon him in trueness.” (Ps. 145:18) He is near those whose mind is on him and his interests and whose heart is in their prayer.

This is the confidence that we have toward him, that, no matter what it is that we ask according to his will, he hears us.—1 John 5:14.

This question is for those having faith in God, his son, and his word the bible.

Update:

@ SheepDog

Tell me who prayed for the next door neighbors 3 year old son? If you and others had done so...Do you believe in your heart that it could have made a difference? The key is asking in faith..James 1:5-8 recommended.

Update 2:

@ Loyal person..that's so true! Heartfelt prayer is the beginning of it.

Who do you need to forgive, bro? Seriously. That's the first thing that came to my mind on reading this, because your actions you call "going crazy" sure sound a lot like anger and pain that's running your life. And I'm no trained professional, nor am I even involved in pastoral care, but I can tell you this: It's often what happens when someone (or several someones) have done wrong by us, hurt us, and we carry those feelings around just under the surface, ready to grab us again the moment anything stressful comes up. Forgiveness isn't a feeling. It's a choice. So on the off chance that this is the problem, give some thought to who it is you need to forgive (even if it's yourself, hmm?). Make that the focus of your prayers for a while. See what happens. God's not going to fail you. But with stuff like this we throw up our own wall between Him and us.

I don't pray unless i'm wanting something from God and that makes me feel selfish and guilty in the end. Talking to God is a different story. When I talk with God it makes me feel better I feel like something is actually listening and understands me.
