Which is healthier, brown rice or wild rice?
I'm looking for healthier substitute to white rice. In my country it's really hard to find brown rice. Only red rice (wild rice) is widely available. Is there any nutritional difference? Which one is better for weight management?

Both are health. brown-rice has more fibré & more calories (p/4.9oz), than most wild-rice. but wild rice contains more healthy sugars & starch than most brown rice.
I'd personally try brown rice myself. I eat a lot of vegan desserts (not vegan myself) where brown rice shyrup & xanthum-gum is added. yeah it's very tasty.
But it depends on your def on "healthy". if you mean the most nutrient packed? I'd say it's either brown or basmatic rice. if you want "healthy" as in best for diet with least calories? Wild-rice, or canadian black rice. If you mean "healthy" as in less chemicals added & more natural? wild-rice again.
Source(s): WOW! come to think of it, There's also couscous & barly. but that's irrelevent to the question :[ - Anonymous8 years ago
wild rice is healthier. It has no layers removed, and it occurs in the wild. It is a rice that has the least starch in it compared to other rices, such as brown rice and white rice.
brown rice is a refined rice where a layer or two has been removed from the original rice. White rice is a completly refined rice where all the layers are removed.

Try to substitute all grains (including rice) with Quinoa (a seed food) if you can. Much healthier - plus rice is loaded with higher levels of arsenic than pretty much any other food out there. Also, Quinoa cooks up exactly like rice, as a bonus. Add some Chia Seed and Raw Sunflower Seeds when you cook it up, if you really want to make it a super-food (you could even do that to rice).
The best way to manage weight and minimize body fat gain/retention is to absolutely minimize high sugar and high net-carbohydrate grain foods in your diet, and replace them with more vegetables, lower-sugar fruits, nuts/seeds, and unrefined healthy raw/virgin fats/oils (NOT refined oils).

i would lean slightly in the direction of wild rice, but it's more of a preference thing than it is based on anything conclusive. other than that it might be a toss up. i do favor wild rice because it's less sticky, which might be because it's lower in starch which i personally think is a problem, at least for me, being practically starch intolerant. i seem to do a bit better with fluffy rice, and rather bad digestively with sticky rices.

Brown a=has more iron and fibre, but only a bit. If you find it hard to get brown rice, then make the same rice, and add some sesame seeds, seaweed or shredded cabbage to the white rice. It'll be the same calorie, iron and fibre overall.
