Car stars and then stalls?
Hi. I have a 98 Honda Accord that i bought, oh, maybe a month and a half ago. It doesn't happen all the time (seems to be pretty random, cant figure out why sometimes and not others) but sometimes when i start the car the engine will turn over but then the RPMs will go way down. Sometimes it just barely catches and the engine stays on, but other times it doesn't and the engine stalls. When this happens, if i start the engine again and lean my foot on the gas pedal a little bit while i turn the key it starts up fine with no issues. Right now it doesn't seem to be a big problem but I'm a little concerned only because i don't want to keep doing this only to discover at the most inconvenient time that it is a small symptom of a huge problem. Any ideas what could be causing this?
It is the four cylinder engine.

Need to know the engine option that is in your Accord, the 2.3L 4 cylinder or the 3.0L V-6?
ADDED: thanks for the info.
A common issue with the 2.3L is a sticking IAC (Idle Air Control) valve.
Check:
1. Try opening the throttle slightly (while cranking) and see if the vehicle starts better, if it does look for a sticking Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.
2. Verify there is fuel pressure when the problem occurs, if there is a fuel pressure problem test for a faulty PGM-FI main relay.
3. Try adding fuel and see if the vehicle starts better, if it does then look for excessive carbon on the valves. If there is a lot of carbon in the engine it will have a long crank time.
