Would this be a decent mountain bike?

http://bikeisland.com/cgi-bin/BKTK_STOR20.cgi?Acti...

I'm thinking about getting into mountain biking. I'm a bit hesitant to buy something online though, but it seems like it would be a good dea since it says it has shimano shifters and stuff, but i'm not familiar with the brand. also, it says they sell bikes that are cosmetically damaged from shipping.

I would like to do some moderate trail riding, and I do have some experience on an old walmart bike, my giant road bike, and dirt bikes.

do you think this would suit my needs?

Shimano makes a W-I-D-E range of shifters ranging from very good to pretty crappy. To generalize "it has Shimano shifters" is a grave mistake.

What it does have is a much stronger rear hub than a discount store bike. I can tell from the Shimano cs-hg30- 8i "cassette" - not freewheel.

Also the Disc Specific Double Wall Rims.

The problem being the bike is ONLY available in ONE 22" frame size. Did you scroll down to the bottom??!! A 22" frame size is for a VERY tall person...around 6'3" - 6'4" tall. How tall are you?

BTW...Shimano ST-EF50 shifters are discontinued. They were just OK. Not great, but not bad either.

Are you really tall? The ONLY frame size available is 22 inch which is a huge bike for people over 6' 4" tall. Other than that, not a bad deal

Looks like a great deal too bad it is only available in a 22 inch frame. You have to be 6' 3" or above to fit that bike.

For a sparkling motorbike it would in all probability be around 300ish. Used off craigs checklist i might say ~one hundred fifty or so. in actuality in basic terms look for a motorbike with a threadless headset, SRAM x-4 or extra appropriate shifters, (or shimano Alivo or altus point or bigger) and DOUBLE WALL RIMS. believe me in this double wall rim element, single wall rims on a mountain motorbike is like an oxymoron. those partitions are lots extra suitable than the shitty cheapo rims so which you will spend much less money getting them trued. Diamondback Sorrento is what I had in recommendations genuinely. Or something in addition priced and prepare by utilising somebody who knows that they are doing.

Live in the USA? I bought mine last year from Bikes Direct. Lots of bikes in lots of frame sizes, not just one.

Get a good one. $320 or more. Comparable to the one you linked would be this Dawes Haymaker 1000 http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/dawes/hay1000x...

Decent specs. Large frame size. How tall are you? If not at least 6' 3" or so...forget it.

Don't waste your money. You will be better off getting a second hand machine directly from a local seller. After you gain more MTB experience, you can always upgrade and your newly gained personal knowledge will guide you to what you will need later.
