Can noise cancelling headphones make Tinnitus worse?
I've read on a few websites/forums they can spike tinnitus and make it worse/louder. Is this true? I've bought some Bose QC-3 headphones as I do a lot of long haul flying and I think they are making my tinnitus worse, but I don't want to make it worse by wearing these type of noise cancelling headphones.
Could the high frequencies they produce to block sound actually harm your ears?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I was reading about tinnitus the other day , and what you said is true ... it does make it worse because of the noise cancelling .. its because the ear is not made to listen to isolated sounds , and all that the noise cancelling headphones do is isolate the sounds you're listening too (wether its music or just any other sound) Tinnitus is serious problem, not only physical, but it can also cause mental health problems , like anxiety and paranoia

In most cases tinnitus is relatively minor. That is not to say that it is not also extremely irritating and annoying as well. There are many differences of opinion when it comes to how to cure tinnitus. While many believe there is no cure others believe that there are various things that a person can do to stop this problem. And in general definition wouldn't that constitute as a cure?
Some people often times suffer from this condition and do not even know it. They may get the occasional ringing in the ears that doesn't seem to go away. But in the end, it does go away and they forget about it. If these instances where it happens and goes away start to get more frequent, you should pay careful attention as it can turn very serious, very fast!
There are varying degrees of tinnitus. In some cases it may be a simple ringing of the ears. In other more extreme cases however this ringing can become very loud blocking out all other sound. When this happens it can become quite troubling for the person experiencing it because they hear little else.

Limit or avoid exposure to the noises you suspect are causing your tinnitus. If you cannot avoid loud noises, wear protective earplugs or earmuffs.
Try to ignore the sound by directing your attention to other things.
Practice relaxation techniques, such as biofeedback, meditation, or yoga. Stress and fatigue seem to make tinnitus worse. Read more:

Tinnitus is actually not a disease. It is actually a symptom of a problem that is rooted deep, somewhere within your body. The problem could be a simple one like an infection in the ear, or even simpler, such as ear wax. In some people, it could even be the result of a side-effect of a drug they took. Or it could be more complicated. However, we absolutely can treat it healthily. Read more here:

I heard ringing in my ears too, like louder hearing test. It could be tinnitus. Gets louder over time. Use this to reduce the ringing.
