What to do with almost 3 year old while nursing newborn?
I am currently 14 weeks pregnant so I am thinking ahead here. When this baby is born my daughter will be 1 month from turning 3. I remember when she was a newborn that nursing her was like a full time job - 7 or 8 hours a day total. I know it'll work out but any tips or help of what to do with my daughter to make all that nursing time easier on her would be much appreciated!

Make sure whatever area of the house you will be in the most often has plenty to keep her busy. For me that's always been the living room. Toys, snacks, cup/sippy cup, movies, whatever she is into. Also keep snacks and a drink handy for yourself. Make room for her to sit next to you while you nurse the new baby, it'll make her feel included.

When I am nursing my newborn I make it story time for my preschooler. He will sit cuddled up next to me with the baby on the other side of me and we will read. He loves story time so he actually gets excited when baby wants to nurse. When baby starts making sucking noises or sucks on his fist my preschooler will run to the book shelf and joyfully pick out a handful of books.

A ring sling to help hold baby while you nurse. Then you can easily get up and chase toddler if need be! And maybe your daughter will like to nurse her baby dolls too!

when my second was born i had a 18 month old and when my third was born i had a 3 y/o and a 19 month old. for both of them i nursed in the livingroom. our livingroom is fully gatted and baby proff. just make sure you have served drinks/snacks done a diaper change before hand you don't want to spend the whole time nursing listening to "drink, drink, drink, drink."

make a special place with a sign and all and tell your daughter that when its day time and you have to nurse that that's the area you go to ...have a little rocker and a big rocker and either read her a book or tell her to get her baby and feed her while you feed the new baby or have TV time and get her favorite DVDS and tell her when it's time to nurse baby she can have TV time don't let her watch TV unless your nursing the baby. or another is a couple times pump for the baby and help her feed the baby

I would get her a dolly and let her feed the baby with a bottle, like you. Toddlers love copying their parents, it entertains them for hours.
