Ideas for family friendly New Years?

We live in Fayetteville NC (Fort Bragg) and the past few years every New Years they have this great event downtown with live music, a ball drop, fireworks, etc. It was free to the public and apparently they were losing too much money because I just saw that it was cancelled. There is nothing else going on around here at all besides night club type parties and we have a 18month old and a 6 year old. Any ideas or traditions you do on New Years to make our now night-in still be fun and memorable for our kids. I've outgrown the whole night club thing I'd rather spend it as a family then leave my kids with a sitter to go party.

Update:

We are military so our family is all out of state. They all came down for Christmas this year and finally left today so I don't want to do any type of entertaining for other people. Haha I've spent the last month running around like crazy shopping, cooking, cleaning, & playing hostess I want to relax or be waited on!

Your nearest city park should have a firework show and music fun. Or id say buy some firework have a BBQ with some family over and do it at home!
