  • Any online forums or groups for parents of gay children?

I have a 9 1/2 a year old son. I believe he may be gay, bicurious, transgender, I don't know. I WILL NOT TOLERATE HATE OR JUDGEMENT. I want to find a group for other parents to get some advice. My son is really struggling and it's breaking my heart. I don't know what to do. PLEASE if anyone has experience with this or knows of a group I can turn to, I really need your help. Thank you!

  • Looking for some creative ideas on punishment of an 8yr old?

My 8yr old son was riding his bike with a friend, who dared him to give this older lady in her front yard the finger, and to my shock, he did it! She walked right over to my house and told me. I was pretty horrified as this doesn't sound like my son at all & definitely not something he sees at home. He tells me frequently he sees kids on the bus do this and kids on the bus curse, and each time I tell him I better never catch him doing it because it is wrong.

I marched his down the street and had him apologize to her face to face. He is currently sitting in his room, and I am trying to come up with an appropriate yet memorable consequence so he doesn't do this again. Was wondering what other parents have done for similar situations.

(And I inevitably get the comment from someone to smack him, I don't hit my kids...)

    Thank you!

  • What happened to yahoo mail??

I signed on and it's completely different!

They changed the font so it's all compact and small. Then changed the color. Then gave me some blue background of a dock that makes my inbox impossible to read.

And I'm only 30 and it hurts my eyes.

How do I change it back???

  • SERE School C at Ft Bragg?

My husband is currently at Ft Bragg's SERE School Level C (one SF go to).

I know you can't tell me about the POW portion as it's classified, but after hours of googling this school the day he left (I don't know what the hell I was thinking!) I already have a good idea about the horror that is SERE school.

    I have a 2 part question--

    1. Is my husband going to come back normal? He will be here in 3 days and I am getting all kinds of anxiety, I've heard of people getting PTSD from the waterboarding, husbands needing a week or so before they want to touch or talk to their wife, having no patience with the children and flipping out when they cry. This concerns me as our baby doesn't sleep through the night and cries all the time. These people are making me feel like he's not going to be happy to see me....

    2. Anyone remember time frame the bus returns to Bank Hall from Mackall? I know the avaiation unit wives make posters and goody bags and welcome the buses back. My husband is the only one from his unit there, so I don't know anyone who's husband is there. I was given absolutely no information on anything. I've heard other people got papers on how to act when the soldiers get back and whatnot, I feel so out of the loop on this.

I hope I'm blowing it out of proportion, but I'm practically in tears thinking he's going to be a mess when he gets back....

Also, he gets back sometime Friday we have to leave first thing Saturday morning to drive to Maryland (7 hours from here) as it's been planned out long before he got the orders for the school. I have to drop my son off to my ex husband and my mother is having a birthday party for me that weekend and a bunch of family will be there. Now I feel like he's not going to want to go or be totally overwhelmed after what I've heard other wives say....

  • Ideas for family friendly New Years?

We live in Fayetteville NC (Fort Bragg) and the past few years every New Years they have this great event downtown with live music, a ball drop, fireworks, etc. It was free to the public and apparently they were losing too much money because I just saw that it was cancelled. There is nothing else going on around here at all besides night club type parties and we have a 18month old and a 6 year old. Any ideas or traditions you do on New Years to make our now night-in still be fun and memorable for our kids. I've outgrown the whole night club thing I'd rather spend it as a family then leave my kids with a sitter to go party.

  • Why are my dishes coming out of the machine dirty?

We don't have a top of the line dishwasher or anything, but it's not total junk. It's only a year old and has been working great up until recently. Now I'm noticing all kinds of bits of I guess food that look like sand stuck all over my glasses. YUCK! I've been prewashing them really good before they go in and they're coming out dirtier than before I wash. We are first time home owners, is there a way you take the machine apart and clean it every so often??? Suggestions how to fix this?

    Thanks!

  • What is this show called?

It's on TLC or one of those channels. It's about real people preparing for the apocalypse or zombies, I don't know. They have bunkers filled with all kinds of supplies, and they're target shooting with bows and arrows. I never saw it, I saw a preview and was trying to explain it to my husband and I can't find what its called. I think it has preppers or something in the title.

    Thanks!

  • Nikon camera (d5100) blurry photos on automatic setting?

I've had the d5000 for a few years and just bought the d5100 on a black Friday sale. I ordered a lens filter thing right after I got it, and it arrived like a week later. The first week, the camera took great pictures. As soon as I put the filter on, the pictures were all blurry on automatic setting. So I took the filter off and they are still blurry. I'm sure I didn't touch or scratch the lens while putting the filter on. I even cleaned my lens, and it's still blurry. It's the lens it comes with- the Nikkor 18-55. It's not the best lens out there, but it should still work, especially on automatic settings. Ideas on how I can fix this??? Trying to take Christmas card photos of the kids and everything is garbage!

  • Southern Pine Bugs (aka giant f*n roaches) in my septic lines?

I'm from the north, and dirty apartments have little cock roaches, but not houses.

I moved to the south (Fayetteville NC) and they have these things called "pine bugs" that I saw when I moved here and had no idea wtf they were. Turns out the are like american cock roaches on steroids, and called pine bugs because they nest in pine straw which is everywhere.

We have professionals spray the outside of our house to keep them out because obviously I'm disgusted by them.

We moved into a new house about 9 months ago and these stupid creatures are coming up through my drains. Bathtubs, sinks, dishwasher drain....

I've tried spraying with normal spray, but it doesn't seem to be working. Fortunately they're not invading my house, but when I go to take a shower and see a 2" long roach run back down the drain obviously I freak.

We are on city water, but a septic system so my assumption would be these things are living in our septic tank/pipes since these unholy creatures can live underwater for days and are pretty much apocalypse proof!

How the hell can I get them out of my pipes????

  • Wine Making Question- Determining Alcohol Content?

This is my first time making wine and I purchased one of those big expensive kits. It came with a hydrometer, which showed different levels for when to move to the next step of wine making. However, it doesn't tell me how much alcohol is in it once I finished. I googled how to determine, and it said a hydrometer. So I looked them up on amazon and they look exactly like what I have. Am I missing something? Someone please help!

  • Cuban-American relations in the late 1800's and genealogy help.?

In doing genealogy I found 4 ship manifests showing my grandfather of several generations coming back into the country from Cuba on 4 different occassions between 1870 and 1880. He is white (nonhispanic), English speaking, born in upstate NY where he resided and a U.S. citizen. He appears to have been travelling along (his wife and children aren't on the ship manifest). The birth dates and middle names match up, as does the citizenship, residence and the boat sailing to the U.S. There appears to be several U.S. citizens on board. People didn't like go on vacation like they do now, and from what we know they weren't wealthy by any means. I have no information on an occupation, could he be working on a ship? That seems odd since upstate NY doesn't really have ports he'd have to travel to NYC, which is a 6 hour trip today I can't imagine how long back then. Did they even have manifests like that on working ships? Hoping to find someone familiar with Cuban history or ancestry that may be able to shed some light on why my ancestor would be in Cuba 4 times!!!

  • How would you attach wood to metal?

I'm not drilling holes into the metal, so screws isn't an option. I'm wondering more about what type of adhesive, I was thinking hot glue? My son has a metal loft bed and I want to run wooden train track all around the bars on the top. THANKS!

  • Help making a summer reading list! I like page-turners that I can't put down?

So far I have read The Hunger Games trilogy, the first 2 books in The Chemical Garden Trilogy, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, and (UNFORTUNATELY) The Book Thief which was recommended to me and I honestly think the worst book I have ever read.

I like fiction, page turners that I won't want to stop reading until I finish (most books I read in a sitting), and I have NO desire to read 50 shades. AT ALL.

    Suggestions???

I need some good reading while my kids are at camp!

  • How can a man drop 18lbs in 1 week?

Serious answers only. And I don't want judgement from anyone, my husband has risked his life serving 3 deployments to Afghanistan in the past 5 years.

My husband turned 25 a few months ago, and that seems to be the magic age where your metabolism changes for the worst. He is currently south of Miami for 8 months while we are home making frequent trips to South America. This morning he was weighed in before being sent to school and failed. He is 6'1" and weighed in at 218. He really isn't fat, but he has put on 20lbs the past few months being down there and going out to eat all the time instead of having me cook for him. He runs, but they don't have a gym or do group PT because it's on a small base. He was told he has to weigh in at 200lbs next Thursday or he will be flagged, not sent to his school, and this can impact him when he goes to the E-7 board.

I'm not really sure how this happened as I have seen some people in the Army and AF that are legitimately FAT, which my husband isn't. But we need some kind of crash diet that will take off 18lbs in the next week, but still leave him with enough stamina to kick *** on the PT test.

Anyone out there, possibly wrestler or fighters, that have had to make weight in a short period of time that can help me out???

I already told him no carbs at all for the next week and he doesn't drink, but we have to do something quick because failing this is not an option.

    THANK YOU!!!!

  • Have you read "The Book Thief"?

After blowing through The Hunger Games, which I ordered for my summer beach reading (I finished the trilogy in 3 days), I started to look for new books for summer. I heard a lot of positive things about The Book Thief. I loved the plot- a story narrated by Death during WWII and some girl that stole books. I just got to part 3, which is about 1/4 of the way through. This is SERIOUSLY the most boring book I have ever read. I hate the writer's style, but that isn't even that big of a deterient. It just seems SO boring and nothing interesting has happened. This is supposedly a best seller and so many people love this book. I am really thinking about throwing it away right now. Does it get better???

I really want a page turner, and this is putting me to sleep!

  • How true are the Twilight books to the movies?

I haven't been able to read any of the books, but I've seen all the movies so far

I'm looking for some summer reading and was wondering if I picked up the last book if it'd be really close to the movies or if I'd be lost?

I hate when I love a show or movie (True Blood!) and go to read the books and they are nothing alike and I'm totally lost!

  • What is the best book ever?

It can be a classic, new, whatever. I am ordering some books for summer reading, what do you think is the best book? Ever.

I don't like nonfiction, and I can't stand romance novels.

Typically I go for suspense type, but I am open to anything.

I'm trying to stock up my Kindle before the beach.

    THANKS!

  • I'm really confused on the illegality of gay marriage and legislators using Christianity as a reason to ban it?

I'm really not trying to start a debate here, as I know this is an issue for some people (though I will never understand why they care so much about what other people are doing!)

I'm just confused how this can be illegal and how all the propoganda and legislators commercials are using the Christian's God as their basis.

I live in NC and there is some vote tomorrow, which really isn't that much about gay marriage as marriage in general, and they are turning it into this huge issue that if it gets passed they may acknowledge gay civil unions.

All the commercials law makers are putting on tv keep saying "God defines marriage as a man and a woman"

You can't have prayer in school because of the separation of church and state. Why is it legal to use Christianity to descriminate against people?

If you don't want to allow gay couples in your congregation, you don't have to. But how can a country where church is separated from state legally do this?

  • I need a book to read as addictive as The Hunger Games?

I hardly ever get time to read with my kids, but ordered The Hunger Games trilogy for beach reading. I decided to start last week while my son was playing on the slip n slide, and I'm already on book 3. I need another book or series, equally good and addicting, that I can read at the beach now. I asked on facebook and a lot of people told me 50 Shades of Grey, but I read the reviews and I think it sounds pretty lame... mostly a romance novel about a young girl and an old man.... not my thing! Any suggestions???
