What is Stanwell, Middlesex like to live?

Update:

Some mixed reviews there then! I hear that Stanwell has been or is being regenerated. My question is, has this improved the area at all?

Many years ago, I went to a school in Ashford (the town next to Stanwell). Back then, Stanwell was not a nice place. There was a very high number of council properties that weren't looked after by the occupants. The local pub was The Happy Landing (don't know if it's changed its name since then) and the police were regularly called there on a Friday or Saturday night.

Things may have changed since then, but it's not a place I would choose to live in. Also, it's very very close to the airport. I would not like to live right under a flight-path.

Why not check it out on Google maps - that way you'll see what some of the roads are like. Diamedes Avenue was one of the "most troubled" areas back then.

It's really good if you're keen on reservoirs and airport infrastructure.

To my mind nearer to Staines or Hampton would be preferable. Stanwell isn't bad, just a bit unremarkable.

It is next to Heathrow Airport, so is very noisy and polluted. If the airport is expanded, part of Stanwell will be demolished
